Daveman, he actually stated in a later post that he's going to end up with $75 less a month because of this, so he's coming out behind.

my mistake 😱 Seems like alot of companies are cutting benifits right now. That really sucks to get you use to a benifit and slash it.

what he is doing is illegal. you should sue.

How so? Employers aren't obligated to pay any insurance. Or was that a joke because he's a lawyer?

firstly employers cant force you to pay 25% of anything and secondly employers cant just arbitrarily fire, demote, or pay somebody less money. i assume the laws protecting employees from those actions would also extend to employers suddenly, and without justification, reducing benefits.

employers can force you to pay 25% if they want. heck they can cancel it if they want. They can also demote and cut your pay if they want and fire you (but cant use your sex, age or health as a reason).

they may be able to cancel benefits, i dont know about that. but they most certainly can NOT demote, cut your pay, or fire you without good reason. and if the company is small enough they most certainly CAN use health reasons to fire you, its called unable to perform the job functions.

i know this because an uncle of mine was demoted for a period of time only to get his title back after speaking with an attorney who told them they cant do that w/out just cause. this same uncle also had knee replacement surgury recently and was promptly fired six weeks later when he went back to work and asked to be put on restrictive duty for a period of time. he was told that because the company has less than 40 employees that it was legal for them to do that. if the company was greater than 40 employees then they would have had to find him alternate work while he recovered.

but worst case scenario you have the right to decline health insurance. your employer cant just say "your now paying 25%"
