I don't make nearly as much as anybody thinks. Eat me.

Eh, who cares. It's like being a car sales man. We'd feed you to the sharks for your profession, but the sharks wouldn't eat you out of professional courtesy.

😛

HEY, LOOK AT THE SMILEY. IT'S DAMN JOKE.

😀

Heh. 🙂

It is not just this. I get *zero* vacation days and no sick days. I get docked for everything. I work 60 hours a week, talking to idiot clients with gold teeth and neck tattoos. I settle a record number of cases this month, and do I get a bonus? No. I get a pay cut.

I am surrounded by assholes.

Bleh...

As I understand it you have to make partner before you see any real money. Before that you're just a grunt who can barely afford to pay for the schooling you've received.

PS - I have a neck tatoo. Fvck you. 🙂

You gots to get a gold toof wif a diamond in it. If not, you ain't no playa, G.

There are plenty of lawyers that make more than I do that are not partner.

The thing is that it IS your money. Taxes are computed for the money you made at the end of the year. The government withholds taxes from you during the year to keep a constant stream of cash available, but effectively you are making them a no-interest loan every time taxes are withheld from your check. That money IS yours, and your boss is a tool.

so i guess that extra 3 bucks that were in my paycheck this pay period is going to be spent around the economy and save our economy from ruin.

Yours plus my $15, plus my wifes $9. Hey we can buy dinner now. See how that works.

I'll chip in my $3; the ice cream you buy is sure to set up the next stock market run-up.😀

Hey! You landed this job. I'm sure you could get another if you try. Long personal lunches were invented for job interviews. Maybe you should set up some "lunches" for yourself. 😉

Are you kidding me? I have to pay 100% of my health insurance. I would give anything to get my compant to pay 75%.

Except for the fact that that is part of my compensation. I'm sorry that you are not compensated similarly.

Looks like he changed from a participating to a non-participating plan. Big cost savings.

I'm sorry, man. I know what it's like to get shafted in the workplace. Although when I had a female boss, it was kinda fun.

😛

Eh... I'm full of bad puns, jokes, and incomprehinsibly boring one-liners today. 😀 😀 😀

Hope everything gets better for you.

How so? Employers aren't obligated to pay any insurance. Or was that a joke because he's a lawyer?

firstly employers cant force you to pay 25% of anything and secondly employers cant just arbitrarily fire, demote, or pay somebody less money. i assume the laws protecting employees from those actions would also extend to employers suddenly, and without justification, reducing benefits.

Yes they can.

My secretary is a bitch, too. I think I am going to quit.

employers can force you to pay 25% if they want. heck they can cancel it if they want. They can also demote and cut your pay if they want and fire you (but cant use your sex, age or health as a reason).

Get rid of the secretary before you quit!

I'm guessing you work for a pretty small firm, probably a solo with a couple of associates. Sadly, attorneys have a mediocre track record as far as being good employers. I would go to your boss and confront him with your concern about your pay cut (no sense sugarcoating it) and the future for you with that firm. He won't be offended by this. If he sticks by his guns or it looks like a dead end, it's time to move on. Either way, he will have more respect for you.

Daveman, he actually stated in a later post that he's going to end up with $75 less a month because of this, so he's coming out behind.
