Look at the Mac designers.

Turtleneck, black shirt, jeans.

There's nothing strictly "professional" about Macs and their users or image.

I would definitely say a high end Alienware with a guy in a shirt and tie is a lot more professional looking.

I am done with this, you insist on assuming that anyone that that uses a Mac must be wearing jeans and a turtleneck and therefore is not a professional appearing person. I disgree on that stereotype, and so this is going no where. I do not think that an Alienware laptop is more professional looking than a MacBook Pro. You disagree. Fine. Neither of us is going to change the other's mind.

The M15x is nothing but modern looking, and once you turn off all the lights, all you see is incredibly sleek muscular looking machine. It just exudes power.

LMAO. "Exudes power"? Hyperbolic much? The only thing it "exudes" to me is "Hi, I'm another plastic, boxy laptop. Except I've got a light-up logo designed to appeal to teenaged boys."

I think it would look fine in a business setting if they got rid of the dumb logo. Same with the Mac laptops too, actually. I hate that glowing apple logo. I mean, I think it looks kind of cool, and it's definitely distinctive, and I know a lot of people like it, but it just draws attention to your laptop, which IMO isn't something any piece of technology should ever do. Same reason I hate BlueTooth headsets and white iPod headphones. If I'm in a meeting then my eyes shouldn't be constantly drawn to the lid of somebody's laptop. If I were in that kind of position then I would keep my Mac laptop but find some sort of plain black cover to go over the lid.

This build is cheaper and faster than a Mac Pro 😛

My build - $1,696
Intel Xeon W3520 2.66ghz Quad Core
Asus P6T x58 mobo
6gb OCZ DDR3 1600 CAS 8
Intel X25-M G2 80gb
Samsung F1 750gb hard drive
LG 10x Blu-ray Burner
XFX Radeon HD 5770 1gb
Lian Li Armorsuit PC -P50
Corsair 650tx
Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Mac Pro - $2,499
One 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processor
3GB (three 1GB) memory
640GB hard drive
18x double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB

Again, you're missing the point. Don't try to complain about how expensive a MacPro is by comparing it to something that's not the same, complain about how there's no mid-range Mac tower using single-proc Xeons or Quad-core i7's.

So yea, it depends on who you are. If you don't think you can rock an Alienware but you can someone rock a Macbook, perhaps it's time to look into just how people perceive Macs these days and knock one off the "cool" list, if you think they are now just as acceptable as an IBM T-Series at a meeting.

Haha. I think I should take a picture at the next meeting I'm at. It's a very conservative telecommunications company and most of the employees rock MacBooks and a few MacBook Pros.

I won't even mention what it looked like at the newspaper I used to work at :shifty:.

Mac pro is more like z-series hp servers.

Whose going to come out and fix "my build" next business day if the cpu and motherboard get taken out by a bad power supply? HP will. without having to restore the o/s or deal with activation? HP will.

Who can possibly do this for free on the weekend too? Apple.

time is money man - every time you have to ding around with drivers and making this and that work - has a value - if you work 80 hours a week - and have a kid that spare time carries a super-premium cost value - i can appreciate if it doesn't for you now - but trust me you have to put down TCO at sometime in your life.

Yeah, that's another thing about Apple that comes with the higher prices... service. Look at the "AppleCare just gave me a new laptop" thread to see what that's about.

Also I am not one for always giving a good word on customer support for big major companies but I applaud apple on keeping everything domestic and having knowledgeable employees...Gee I wonder why apples are so expensive? A huge part is advertising and having a well rounded group of employees, that actually know their stuff and aren't scripted.

They use the worse/less components (apart from the hdds and cpus) but different software OSX is not worth like 800USD or whatever lol

Though you can start an argument they use dualsocket server mobos so it costs a bit but thats simply no excuse

Its still way OVERPRICED its a fact of life.

Oooh, let's play post pics up of last generation products!

Yay white acrylic! 🙄

This is the current M15x. There is no plastic on the lid (except maybe the logo). The body is mostly magnesium alloy. The whole thing is cold to the touch.

If you think the CTS-V, M5s, E-63 AMGs etc are Rice Rockets, you need to get a better taste in life.

I guess we will just have to disagree what cars and other products spring to mind when one looks at that glowing red monstrosity.

Holly shit dude dude you need to give up, those look like shit. I liked that design when I was 12. Also stop comparing alienware's top of the line to apple intro laptop

alienware-m17x-gaming-laptop-1.jpg

$1,199.00
vs
the polycarbonate white macbook
Apple&

$999

Macbook Pro:
macbook-pro-13-2009.jpg

Now if you where to say that the the Envy 133 is a pro looking laptop, I would agree. But not that acne filled teenage appealing crap from Alienware.

Now that is a sexy laptop.

Alienware M15x was the LOWEST of the line until the recent M11x. 🙄

If you bothered reading, I put up that pic because slash used an old picture of the Alienware to show off the plastic.

Wait, maybe the relevance of showing the $1200 Alienware versus the $1200 Macbook went over your head. 🙄

I love how you grew up from 12 year olds liking modern edgy designs to liking Apple's incongruous albeit thin "designs".

That's like going from liking a Lamborghini to now preferring a Audi. Good for you! Lamborghini > Audi.

See anything familiar? OH WAIT, Lambos are for 12 year olds! Yay! 🙄

"Holy shit, you need to give up". I already did. I put up a picture of M15x (which was the base model for Alienware), which was basically already twice as powerful as the NEW Core i7 Macbook Pros, and wooosh comes the Macheads denouncing power and aggressive styling with 12 year old boys. Somehow Acne was also involved with calling styling of cars like the Lambo, Cadillac CTS and the M15x. :awe:

Apple designs look like 1960s appliances. The designs appeal to some people, but simply saying they are "better" is kinda silly, you are trying to argue an opinion as fact.

What you quoted of Alfa's at no point says 'better'. I am not saying that he never has said that Apple has better styling than Alienware (if he were to have ever said that, you can be assured that I would have agreed) but he certainly didn't where you quoted him, which weakens your point.

However, in response to your point, would you agree that a governing body of designers would have a good idea of what good design is, and whether one design is better than another? If yes, then Jonathon Ive, the head of design at Apple and the man responsible for the iMac, iPod, MacBook, MacBook Pro, iPhone designs (and others) has been repeatedly honored by various bodies for his design work.

Just saying.

I especially like what they did with the power brick. It has an onboard Wireless n router, you plug your hotel ethernet into the port on the powerbrick and BAM! instant router. Freakin genius!

Hardly..... I'm pointing out the Apple Image. That's what people envision an Apple person to BE. I'm not saying anything about everyone who uses Apples are like that. Because I don't. I've owned every Apple product except the Mac Mini/Mac TV and the Desktops.

Now you're saying Alienware users are all Gamers... that's their IMAGE.

But if Apples are acceptable for professional settings despite their image, you can bet Alienwares are as well.

Your points have nothing to back besides teenage hormone imbalanced thoughts. I was just saying that the world contains pro looking windows machine aka Envy 133 which has the sleek characteristics of the MBP. Alienware's look like shit.

That's just your horrible opinion...

I never said that all Alienware users are gamers, or that they were posing to be gamers. I said that Alienware systems have a 'gamer' aesthetic. Also, please go to their website and tell me what it reads across the title bar.

I'll help, it says 'Alienware Computers - Custom-Built Gaming Desktops and Laptops'. They market them as GAMING systems, they emphasize how good they are at GAMING. So, excuse the hell out of me if I then draw the conclusion that someone with an Alienware is using it for GAMES and not for work. Unless of course games are their work in which case, cool.

As I said, a while ago, many, many times. WE OBVIOUSLY FREAKING DISAGREE, PLEASE STOP TRYING TO ARGUE THIS WITH ME, I THINK ALIENWARE LAPTOPS ARE UNPROFESSIONAL LOOKING AS COMPARED TO MACBOOK PROS, THINKPADS, LATITUDES, PROBOOKS, AND ENVYS, YOU DISAGREE, YOU ALSO THINK THAT LAMBORGHINIS ARE AWESOME AND ANYONE THAT DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME OPINION AS YOU HAS A HORRIBLE OPINION, WHICH MAKES NO BLOODY SENSE.

Are we on the same page now?

Why do people even give a fuck how "professional" their consumer electronics look? I'm always up for a good ol' Mac vs PC debate but this has to be the dumbest fucking argument ever. This is directed at both sides.

Both TheStu and I have said that it is all personal preference. This piece of _________ won't just agree with even that.

Edit:
Sorry for calling you "weak sperm", that was a little much.
