Cornbread: Eggnog is for ANYTIME.

Thank you OP for bringing eggnog season to my attention. As soon as I read this post I went to my local Safeway and purchased a carton. Hmm, yum.

It's Wal-Mart, what do you expect? I've been to a handful of Wal-Marts in 5 different states and I've discovered a few constant things about these stores.

1. Nobody should ever go there. Ever.
2. Apparently there are people getting killed in the parking lot left and right or something like this because there's not a supermax prison in the country that has as many security cameras as the front of a Wal-Mart store does. I've yet so see one with less than 50 cameras aimed at the parking lot. And that's just the front of the store. Who the fuck knows what's going on in the back.
3. No matter how nice the area, both the parking lot as well as the store itself will invariably look like they were hit by a tornado.
4. No matter how nice the area, the customers will always look like they've showed up for a casting call for Deliverance. You can almost hear the banjo music playing when you walk into one of these stores. Wal-Mart seems to emit some siren call that only inbreds and genetic freaks can hear.

The Wal-Mart I go to (Hampton Cove, Alabama) is pretty well kept up, occasionally you'll hear country music if you go in the daytime/early evening, but if you go when I do (1-3am), it turns to rock. I was in there the other night and they had Rob Zombie playing.

This is in the nicest part of Huntsville you can get (The store is surrounded by the nicest homes and area in town.

There are plenty of cameras there, but I've never had my car get broke into, and if it did, Walmart can give video footage of the incident. Although, I turn my alarm on anywhere I go.

At this particular store, I've also never heard anything on the news of it being robbed, or any purse snatchings, and other crime happening like you do the other walmarts in the not so nice areas.

I made a mistake once to stop at a Wal-mart to get Deo and soap (was out at home)....stood in line for 30 min and decided to never shop at Walmart again for small stuff. Now, I just stop at Target for small occasional stuff (much shorter lines and registers are staffed more than walmart - last time, it took me less than 5 min to check-out - well worth the extra few pennies/nickels/dimes that they charge)

They ultimately want to eliminate the cashiers altogether.

I've noticed that too, sometimes I'll "forget" to scan a small item and cover it with
a filled bag. It's only fair play since I'm replacing a cashier and working for them.

walmart advice....i use this trick all the time, works like a charm. Grab the item you want, in this case a good ol' helping of the Nog. Then go to the camera/Electronics area. Buy a DVD to watch (if you want to) or if you wanna go cheap, grab a 4 pack of AA's. Then pay for everything at the checkout there. Yes, makes you spend and extra 2 bucks, but when you need those batteries someday down the line, it'll all work out :p

Hehe, not that you'd ever find me in a Walmart, but if you were behind me getting all huffy about me writing a check, I'd use that opportunity to also write my check in the register and balance my checkbook right then and there.....but like I said, you'll never run into me at Walmart. ;)

I always go through self-checkout when I have a cart full of items, just because of people like you.

The walmarts here have a 5 foot long conveyor belt in their self checkout so people can use it for a load of groceries.

The only thing I buy at Wal-Mart is dog food. I generally use the garden center checkout because it's quicker. Sometimes I will have the jewely people check me out. I won't stand in those silly teller lines.

Whenever I feel like there is 100 people stocking Wallyworld and 1 on the registers, I simply complain to the nearest Wallyfarts stocker who is trying to avoid all eye contact with the customers and pretending to be doing something important like stocking $1.00 DVDs to get me the head cashier/manager on duty and ask for a new checkout lane to be opened immediately. Then, as they are walking to the soon to be opened checkout lane, I quickly dart out of my long line, to the new empty checkout line. They all ways have one or 2 other registers ready to open at a moments notice. They just need a good shove to make them do it. This works nearly 100% of the time I have done it.

My biggest rant is how they make the roofs in a Wallytart 3 or 4 stories tall for no obvious reason, and yet they never spend a dime to make a large covered area in front of the doors for loading vehicles in a thunder storm, which might go on for hours at times. What kind of stupid building designer flunkies from Arkansass thought that was a great idea to leave off. It would also make the butt ugly buildings look less like giant corporate designed cardboard boxes if they added those badly needed awnings for customers.

Very nice rant, worth my time reading it.

I use self checkout when I go, and I NEVER go there if I am in a hurry.

Maybe if you didn't live in an area that was full of slack-jaw hillbillies you wouldn't have that problem.

The Walmart near me is pretty good. I have never waited longer than 5 minutes to check out. The store is very well lit (lots of skylights) and their isles are a very nice size. The store is always very clean. Heck, I may go there now just to hang out.
