Random Bush Comment for the week

Was reading this article on Yahoo/AP news : Hahaha 🙂

And this nugget stood out to me :

"Part of the reason why there's not this instant democracy in Iraq is because people are still recovering from Saddam Hussein's brutal rule," Bush said. "Sort of an interesting comment, I heard somebody say, `Where's Mandela?' Well, Mandela's dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas."

Note to Bush : Mandela is still alive.

Btw, I think Bush > Saddam, but that's not saying much, is it? Of course, I also think Bush > LBJ. What happened to statesmen and leaders like Eisenhower and Kennedy? Our two parties are now filled with fools and evil corrupt monkeys.

You are misunderstanding what he said.

What he was saying is that there are no people like Nelson Madela in Iraq because Saddam killed them all.

Damn man....go to bed...you just got outsmarted by Gee Dub

Lol I get what he was trying to say, it's just that saying "Where's Mandela? Well, Mandela's dead" is a pretty stupid thing to say to make a point. Particularly because the namesake is quite alive and well.

You wish 🙂 It's quite clear what he meant to say, it just came out funny because the famous Mandela is alive.

It wasn't clear at all to you what he was trying to say...the OP proves that.

Plus you're still missing the point.

Damn man...just stop now before you make it worse.

Ah, I see.... Iraq had an allotment of Mandelas' and they've been all killed, so Iraq is now shit outta luck unless someone ships in a replacement supply of Mandelas'...

Maybe they can outsource to a country that can provide them cheaper Mandelas'...

No, the OP was tongue-in-cheek on his comment. It was a stupid thing to say given the context of the situation. Most of Bush's gaffes are similar. If you read into them, you can figure out what he meant, but it just comes out wrong.

You can't know what I understand or not, although it might have been better to put a disclaimer in the OP regarding the meaning behind his bizarre statement. Of course, it should be obvious enough to anyone.

lol that's more like it 😉

I don't like how he infers that *all* of the Mandela-like characters are dead.

I hope your shoes were clean before posting that.

We can poke all kind so fun at GWB but in a sense, GWB is correct and that was exactly the net effect that a Police State ruled by Saddam produced. The point being, Saddam needed all kinds of effective sub-leaders to make Iraq run, but he never let any one of them get too powerful and he played them off one against another. Nor was Saddam above simply assassinating any leaders outside of government who set up their own power bases. Resulting in a lasting climate of hate and mutual distrust.

And sadly no Iraqi Mandela has arisen that anyone will listen to. And now that everyone and their brother in law have their own little power bases set up, any future Iraqi Mendela is going to have the far harder job of not only selling Iraqi brotherhood, but also asking everyone to give up their power bases.

The usual thing that promotes a national identity is some external threat but as long as the US is there to defend Iraq, that does not seem to be promising.

Nothing seems to be easy in Iraq. And wishing for an Iraqi Mendela does not make it happen.
But it still begs the question, what policy changes could the US make to pave the ways for such a future Mendela?

If Rummy had provided more body armor for the Mandelas, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Heh, damn! I wonder where we're going to find our next shipment of Mandelas, since Iraq is cleaned out.

Bush has said things like this often, where you can tell he has something on his mind, it just comes out silly. Like :

Wow they added the Mandela one 🙂 I guess I'm not the only one that got a smile out of it.

Btw; Alberto Gonzeles is the 'eternal general' 😀

So are you.

Calling people names is fun! 😀

Yeah, while I'm not invading countries and denying health insurance to children whose parents cannot get into Medicare and can't afford private insurance, I'm making false claims that one of the greatest men of the 20th century is dead:roll:.

I think Bush, with his gift for language, would have made a great poet. I just wish he had gone in to poetry for a living.
