I think the Eagle would fly off before sustaining any serious injury, but would likely leave a scar on the Cat. Cat's get rather ferocious when threatened and shouldn't be underestimated.

Frankly, I agree with him. While it's pretty clear based in the OP that this could have been prevented, I think there's a lot of cases where society demands somebody to blame even when there really isn't anyone.

The real fault lies with the Federal government – it is news to noone that industry will lie about virtually anything to cut costs and put more money into corporate pockets. In other words, even your admittedly progressive blog is telling the government that it is also responsible. Note that I said ALSO, not instead of, BP. Here is the problem: government puts regulations in place. It is the government's job to enforce those regulations. If the regulations aren't enforced, then companies are going to cut corners to save money because they know that their competitors will be doing the same thing and they have to cut costs this way to stay competitive. Thus, rather than performing appropriate safety tests to maintain equipment warranties and such (as is usually done in the absence of government regulation), the test just gets cut altogether because government regulations don't allow warranty of pressure relief safety equipment. I won't even get into the technical merits of the regulations because it's not worth the electrons it will take for me to send them to you because you won't understand them and, quite frankly, there aren't any to discuss.

Now that he has the Republican nomination, his words are getting national attention, instead of just among the conservative movement. Obviously, his opinion on certain matters, while normal amongst aforementioned movement, is alarming to the larger American demographic. However, his arguments also have a sympathetic ear in his home state and throughout the Tea party movement. Unless he keeps talking and ends up crashing and burning, I think he'll be elected. The problem is, he may have no friends in Congress except for 5-10 people that think like him.

Even if true, this totally misses the point of why the BP spill is more disastrous. The natural oil leaks are not as concentrated as the man-made BP oil leak, so the oil has time to disperse and biodegrade enough not to be a huge threat to marine life.

Anyway, if you truly think that natural oil leaks mean that the BP spill was no big deal, I guess Exxon-valdez was no big deal either, and everybody should just refund Exxon's money it paid out.
