He really would do better to STFU when it comes to highly emotional issues if he is as disconnected with Americans as he seems

"And I think it's part of this sort of blame-game society in the sense that it's always got to be somebody's fault instead of the fact that maybe sometimes accidents happen," Paul said.

Are Americans picking on your future Sugar Daddy? .. Was this an accident Mr Paul?
Not only did the blowout preventer under the Deepwater Horizon well have a leak in it, not only did it include a dead battery, not only were the tests on it falsified for years, but when engineers actually needed to use it and tried to activate it, they didn’t have the right schematics:

http://news.firedoglake.com/2010/05...ter-horizon-failures-criminal-charges-coming/

You really want someone in power who in his first days as a scumbag (politician) SHOWED US ALL he does not care about you or your environment or the safety of your nation IF it means he might lose favor with BIG OIL?

What a fool dahunan is in saying, "Rand Paul.. please just go away.. you are not bright enough to keep your mouth shut"

Even I have to admit that dahunan had a valid point until 5/18/2010, but now the GOP in Kentucky is stuck with Rand Paul, come hell or high water.

Sing after me to the tune of Tom Dooley, " if it hadn't a been for Greyson, I would be in Tennesee. Hang down your head Rand Paul, hang down your head and cry......."

Wow, amazing that such a scoop only appears at Firedoglake and the Huffy Puffy post!

I propose a new rule - anyone calling himself a whistle blower must have been within at least a thousand miles of the alleged activity, at the time of the alleged activity.

In the spirit of the thread, I bring you Colonel Kurtz.

"I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror. Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies. I remember when I was with Special Forces. Seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate the children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for Polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. And I remember... I... I... I cried. I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that. The genius. The will to do that. Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not monsters. These were men... trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love... but they had the strength... the strength... to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us."

But but but, werepossim, the KY voters that matter in the coming general election are at ground zero. When they blow the Rand Paul yeech yuck whistle, it may not be exactly joy in GOP KY Mudville. As Rand Paul is open mouth insert foot is doing everything to strike out.

Its strike two already, and the primary is not even 3 days done.

 NOT TRUE, OP, NOT TRUE!

Apparently, Rand is bright enough to at least temporarily shut up! :D

Paul Cancels Sunday TV Appearance

After a series of interviews on national TV that stirred an uproar over his views on civil rights and other issues, Rand Paul, the Republican nominee for Senate in Kentucky, has canceled a scheduled appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program on Sunday.

Betsy Fischer, the producer for the news program, said that Mr. Paul’s press secretary, Jesse Benton, had notified them a few hours ago that he would not be appearing on the show. She said Mr. Paul’s campaign had committed to the show on Wednesday, but that his aide said he was tired after a long week.

[...]

Ms. Fischer confirmed the rarity of a cancellation to the highly watched show. Throughout its history, she said, only two guests have canceled: Louis Farrakhan and Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia.

That would be an interesting scrap. The Cat is already about the largest size critter an Eagle would likely Attack, except the Cat has some decent Defense capabilities. Unlike a rabbit, for eg. I think the Eagle would fly off before sustaining any serious injury, but would likely leave a scar on the Cat. Cat's get rather ferocious when threatened and shouldn't be underestimated.

Frankly, I agree with him. While it's pretty clear based in the OP that this could have been prevented, I think there's a lot of cases where society demands somebody to blame even when there really isn't anyone.

I think you should seriously reconsider the likely outcome of a cat vs. an eagle. It wouldn't even be close, and there would be a clear winner:

If you had stopped foaming at the mouth long enough to read another article from your new favorite site, you might have found this interesting bit:
The question is: "Why wasn’t a representative of the US Minerals Management Service present to verify the validity of testing?"

In other words, it is shortsighted to simply start and stop with BP on the blame for test result falsification on critical safety equipment such as blowout preventers. The real fault lies with the Federal government – it is news to noone that industry will lie about virtually anything to cut costs and put more money into corporate pockets. It’s the role of the Federal government to insure that industry doesn’t get away with this when companies like BP inevitably try to falsify tests, and the hearings in the Senate should involve questioning the current and past heads and officials in MMS in order to determine how it is that tests could be falsified ever let alone in number. The witch to burned is the witch of corrupt public officials.
Source: http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/47159

In other words, even your admittedly progressive blog is telling the government that it is also responsible. Note that I said ALSO, not instead of, BP. Here is the problem: government puts regulations in place. It is the government's job to enforce those regulations. If the regulations aren't enforced, then companies are going to cut corners to save money because they know that their competitors will be doing the same thing and they have to cut costs this way to stay competitive. Thus, rather than performing appropriate safety tests to maintain equipment warranties and such (as is usually done in the absence of government regulation), the test just gets cut altogether because government regulations don't allow warranty of pressure relief safety equipment. I won't even get into the technical merits of the regulations because it's not worth the electrons it will take for me to send them to you because you won't understand them and, quite frankly, there aren't any to discuss.

More oil is released free flow trough oceans cracks in a day than BP did in her "tragic spill". One of Iceland volcanoes releases more than all the hydrocarbon all of mankind in the universe burns in a year. Kill mother nature it's the only way to stop "destroying environment". Obama hates corporations and America It's obvious I agree with Mr Rand.

Now that he has the Republican nomination, his words are getting national attention, instead of just among the conservative movement. Obviously, his opinion on certain matters, while normal amongst aforementioned movement, is alarming to the larger American demographic. However, his arguments also have a sympathetic ear in his home state and throughout the Tea party movement. Unless he keeps talking and ends up crashing and burning, I think he'll be elected. The problem is, he may have no friends in Congress except for 5-10 people that think like him.

Even if true, this totally misses the point of why the BP spill is more disastrous. The natural oil leaks are not as concentrated as the man-made BP oil leak, so the oil has time to disperse and biodegrade enough not to be a huge threat to marine life.

Anyway, if you truly think that natural oil leaks mean that the BP spill was no big deal, I guess Exxon-valdez was no big deal either, and everybody should just refund Exxon's money it paid out.
