Yep, Moscow Mitch and his wife are as corrupt as the day is long. Rand Paul is a despicable human being using lies, threats, and misinformation to finance his campaign.

However... I can tolerate KY because those two assholes don't really affect my day-to-day life. They're not at my house telling me not to have gay sex... they're not in the street telling me to turn my tunes down. The biggest threat to me and mine is the R-controlled state legislature.

I can tolerate the Kentucky COL since it's ~40% less than Connecticut where I used to live. My MS can tolerate the Kentucky climate much better. My wife grew up here and we're both well aware of the states poor funding of social programs, infrastructure, and education. It was a no brainer for us to move here. Should have done it sooner tbh...

I loved Lexington. Really I did. Was a wonderful town to live in and raise a family. Step out of Lexington and it's rich people and MAGA in every direction. There's still deep rooted racism and a growing evangelical base. Lots of old money and some of the poorest counties in the country.

I live in a liberal bastion of a liberal state which is the 5th largest economy on planet earth. Guess what? I don't know a single R here. There are assholes and rednecks around, but not the MAGA kind, they are rare. I don't feel like a fish out of water.

I want to be clear, I've lived in a lot of states and *NO* state is perfect. I lived in IL for 20 years and bailed on that ultimately because if you didn't live in Chicago it was a rust belt, rural wasteland but still had taxes through the roof. Eastern Iowa is a lovely place to raise a family and Iowa City is a wonderful town. I lived there for 5 years while it was still blue. Their shift to red has been something to watch. Lived in Nebraska (Omaha) and it's just Iowa...but redder. Lived in Arizona (Phoenix) and don't really have an opinion other than "too damn hot". I live in Portland Oregon now and we certainly have our issues.

Specific to Kentucky it's just hard to really explain. It's like they enjoy suffering. The wealth divide in that state is staggering. But the poor areas just keep voting to suffer more. The religious base is insufferable, and it's just not a well educated state. We lived in Lexington which is a blue oasis in a desert of red. And even there they couldn't manage to kick Andy Barr to the curb in a wave election. The evangelical takeover in schools was just too much. My daughter was miserable. If you didn't go to a church and/or have some sort of deep tied roots to the area you were an outsider. It was very much the southern politeness of smile and charm to your face then stab you in the back once you turn around.

And it was too damn hot too. 2019 had like 90 days at 90 or more. BLEH.

Pretty good description other than the 'too hot' part for me personally.

Louisville is a shooting gallery right now. Nightly gun violence... Would be nice to see that curbed.

I've also never quite been able to square why you can distill and make millions off of bourbon in a county, but you can't buy it there. Blue laws are so weird.

Agree KY is too humid. It's not too hot actual temperature wise, but the heat index is horrible. Unfortunately I am within 30 minutes of TN.

Alot of em down here are just brainwashed. They are fed faux news. There is not any alternative on the radio stations that can be received. The business owners force feed faux on their monitors 24/7. And damn they love to bitch about socialism while waiting on their checks in the mail.

Was in the air balancing an amp that feeds my road, and watched this dude come out to the mailbox and start literally jumping up and down his check came. Waived it at me. "Time to run to the county line liquor store" Yea I live in a dry county.
 
Its certainly changed since then. Looeyville has a lot to offer now. The strife is comparable to other large metropolitan areas.
 
I'm indifferent on Louisville. Probably made 30+ day trips there for various things but didn't really ever explore it. We spent a lot more time in Cincinnati. Zoo, Ikea, sports, ect. Just had more things there that we wanted. We did hit the mega cavern drive through Christmas lights one year in Louisville. A little underwhelming given the hype, but was interesting to do once.

I live in Louisville and like the city, but the gun violence has gotten out of hand the last the last few years.
