He obviously said if you take the same game but make the graphics much better then that game is more enjoyable and thats true >>

zork was great... it ran at my refresh rate... ah, text. AC and EQ have better visuals, but i still consider UO the better game bcause its got so many more things to do. unreal tourney has an outdated engine that brings most video card to a crawl but is still more enjoyable than q3a because its simply a better game. alice uses the same enigne as q3a, has no multiplayer, and is still a better game. then theres starcraft, which i still play because its incredible, not for visual candy. >>
Ok, take your unreal tournament, add FSAA and up the resolution. Keep the framerate the same (assuming you upgraded your video card) Are you having a better gaming experience? This is what i am getting at, this has nothing to do with game design.

nVidia may have some hardware hsr but from what i understand it won't remove all hidden surfaces. if 3dfx can get their software hsr working properly, maybe even have it running on the t&l unit, plus the huge bandwidth advantage, they might have it won. >>
No HSR will remove EVERYTHING. Tiling is king, its the only thing that removes pretty much everything. Other than that, 3dfx has Gigapixels engineers to help them implement their HSR, so it could be of better quality than that of Nvidias. COULD be. Your statement here bases upon my points - dominating bandwidth, probable hardware HSR, or even software. (which may use the off chip powerful Sage T&L unit) They give a close fillrate (which i think they will, because V5 had more fill by far than the GF1, it's planned competition) and deliver the card on time, and they will be king.
