Ram Questions

😕

I have three slots for RAM on my Microstar K8T Neo-FSR.
Two of the slots have Kingston 512MB PC3200 CL3 184-Pin DIMM memory.
I have just purchased both of these sticks:
Kingston 256MB PC3200 CL3 184-Pin DIMM
Kingston 512MB PC2700 CL2.5 184-Pin DIMM

1. Would I be better off using the third slot for the 256mb since it is the same type of memory? How would using mixed memory types affect my system?

2. Completely off topic, but would mixing and matching different brands of ram have a negative effect on my system?

Can you use PC3200 and PC2700 together?...never knew that if so...and I would have all your memory as PC3200 instead of mix...generally more RAM is always good for boosting system performace

you can't use pc 2700 and 3200 in one motherboard I think, and the difference between double sided and single sided ram is that the chips are on one side (for single sided), or both sides of the Printed Circuit Board (pcb).

Sure you can, you just run them all at the speed of the slowest stick.

OP: I suggest you use the 256mb stick. You wouldn't be able to make use of the 512 stick's lower timings and when you already have a gig, another 256 megs isn't going to make much of a difference. Dropping from PC3200 to PC2700 might.
