Ram not going at 200mhz ...

i have OCZ EL 2x 512 2-2-2-5 ram ... DDR 400 but for some reason .. my ram wont go to a full 200mhz .. its at 166.7mhz .. can anyone explain to me why .. and my mobo is a KT400 Soyo Dragon Lite

Won't or not by default? Most likely the CMOS Setup is configured manually for 166 or a divisor rather than 200 or auto. Less likely, the RAM's SPD is wrong or it was sold as a higher spec than intended (i.e. overclocked).

2500+ cores run at 333MHz FSBs by default. if you're running 1:1 your ram will run at the same speed as the FSB (which is 166.7). i wouldn't bother increasing the ram speed if you don't increase the FSB as well.

so that means... if i dont overclock ... my ram speed wont achieve 200mhz?

Go into BIOS and increase the CPU bus to 200MHz, and the RAM will follow. Then you will be running the RAM at it's stock speed and have a faster CPU. 🙂

umm... no ... i changed the Dram freq ... and my computer didnt boot ... if i set it to auto it boots ... its default is 133 mhz ... not 200

i quit ... i cant find anything that says fsb ... =\ ... all i see are dram clock cpu freq .. i see a multiplier but i cant mess around with it .. o well

pretty much. adding ram bandwidth beyond fsb bandwidth is about as pointless as one can get. any increase in bandwidth to other peripherals is more than outweighed by the increase in latency introduced by running asynchronously.

anyway, about your overclock, you probably only have one thing, (dram clock) and then your FSB is just a fraction of that (aka they're not adjustable independently). you probably have something expressing FSB to DRAM clock ration such as 1:1 or 100%. that is fine. what you need to change is the multiplier of the CPU. a 2500 barton runs at 1833, which is 11x. that needs to be dropped to somewhere such as 10x. if you drop it to 10x, you get an easy overclock up to 10x 200mhz = 2 ghz.

now, a 2500 barton can probably take an FSB overclock to 200mhz if you bump the voltage a little and have adequate cooling.

I got a Silent boost .. which cools up to a 3200+ which i think should be adequete .. but i'm not sure .. anyway .. i dont understand the multiplier so im not gonna touch it ..

i tried messing around with the cpu freq ... i achieved the 200mhz .. but my computer ran at 1ghz .... yea ... so ....
