Yep, all the "Horsemen" were there except for Ole Anderson.

Wasn't a chance in he][ that the 'Hitman would be there, not as long as Vince owns the show.

Huh? They did the hall of fame for Bret Hart.. so why can't he go back in the ring? Oh, and you're forgetting BENWAH! I'm sure there are a couple of other Horsemen you're forgetting.. wasn't Sid Vicious at ONE point one of them?

You've never seen the documentary on how McMahon screwed the Hit Man?

they got over that.

but he has said he won't do anything to promote WWE or McMahon as long as vince is in charge.

Ric is the man, the way he falls always cracks me up, and nobody can get twisted up in the corner turn buckle after a whip like him. I wonder how he did it.

to be the man, you got to beat the man WOOO! - Doubt he was the first to say it, but whenever I hear it I think of him.

I actually cried as well. It was such an emotional event... and seeing everyone out there applauding him was just wow. What a way to go.. seriously.

when *most* wrestling fans talk about the 4 horsemen, they mean ric flair, arn anderson, ole anderson, tully blanchard, & jj dillon

Taker showed up after the cameras were turned off - same for the McMahons

Dean did show up

Vince is the one responsible for WWE's success. He made wrestling a respectable force in TV land. Quite remarkable really.

I'll admit I cried a little too. That wrestlemania match with Shawn Michaels was a good match and I'm glad that he went out while he could still put up a match like that. I wasn't always a big fan of him but I always respected him and the way all the other wrestlers (specially the young ones) looked that day, you can tell they felt like "man, I hope that's me someday".

In a way, I'm glad Hogan wasn't there. That man is a joke and has retired like 20 times already.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

if you want to get technical, WCCW in dallas made wrestling a force on TV long before vince began taking over all the territories. WCCW had TV all over the country and all over the world and was getting ratings close to 20s, and often beat Saturday Night Live (when SNL was actually good in the 80s).

all vince did was get a lot of money from his dad so he could buy up talent (something the promoters in the territories frowned upon because they were so set it their ways).

I grew up watching Ric Flair, the original bad guy. Of course I was always rooting against him back then :). Didn't know there was any special event for him.

Before Vince wrestling was really fragmented. After Vince its one giant conglomerate. I actually don't like monopolies, but he got wrestling really big. He destroyed all the competitors, stole all their talents and screwed all the talents at the same time. That is not an easy thing to do.

Rambler, that was a great post ... I agree 100% on all counts.
One thing that kept popping up in my mind was thinking of Benoit as they introduced the Horsemen. I'm still as shocked today as the day the news hit on that tragedy.
There will only be one Flair, and it was a wild ride while he was around ... hope he does well out of wrestling. Didn't he dabble in politics ?? They'd elect him governor if he ran in NC !!

Funny I thought of Benoit too when the introduced Malenko.

The Horsemen were great in their early days. Even the latter group was very good and had some excellent young tallent. I actually hated Evolution cause I don't think Batista and Orton are good wrestlers.

I did. the gist from what I've gathered, is that there was some announcement, somewhere. and coming from a wrassler, it's probably as thin as Paris Hilton's undies. He'll be back.

it also sounds like he was given a star? or McMahon was giving one even though the general opinion is that Flair deserves it more?

I'll graciously remove myself form this thread now :)

Because he is 60 years old and decided to call it a career. He'll still be around in other capacities (maybe a manager, representative for WWE away from TV or they'll give him a role as a GM of one of their shows) but he is done with the actual wrestling for good.

They set up a long retirement storyline that had him fighting every week against someone and if he loses he'd have to retire for good. Obviously the storyline would last until Wrestlemania so he can have one last big match on WWE's biggest show of the year. He loses to Shawn Michaels in an emotional match and now he's done.

the only competition vince ever destroyed was WCW. like i said, everything else was him just buying the top talent from all the different territories or just outright buying the territories themselves. if you had the kind of money to work with that he had, it IS an easy thing to do. you just have to have the balls to upset a lot of guys that knew how to get you killed without it getting back to them. he had death threats every day for years. the fact that he lived through the takeovers is the only real impressive thing he did back in those days.

there wasn't some announcement, somewhere. WWE had been running an angle for the past few months that the next time flair lost a match he would be forced to retire from the ring. this past sunday was wrestlemania, WWE's largest event of the year. he lost a match there so he was "forced" to retire. on saturday night, he became the only active wrestler to be inducted into WWE's hall of fame.

in real life, he's just old and can't do it like he used to so he's retiring from the ring and taking a public relations role with WWE (since he still had 2 years left on his contract).

a few weeks ago, vince mcmahon was given a star on the hollywood walk of fame. most people agree that flair deserves one more than vince.

lol, and you think doing all that was easy? Personally, I detest VM, but I do have respect for his abilities.

yes, i think throwing money people is easy. he went behind people's backs and promised their top talent more money than their promoters were giving them. what is hard about that? then once he had enough talent he just bought the territory to "eliminate" the competition. it's not like he put on a better product than his competitors. hell, WCCW was getting better ratings in new york than WWF shows were getting.

Wait. Why are people here saying Ric Flair is going to be given backstage roles now? Where the HELL were you these last few years? He's been manager/(fake) co-owner of WWE and had numerous cameos backstage. Not that I love to see him gone.. but he is pretty old.

He's not going into backstage roles yet, he's going into promotion. He'll be one of the 'faces' for the company, doing press appearances and whatnot. As for the GM/owner storyline, that was something like 7 years ago. He returned to active competition in the last few years.

yeah he would get worn out or hurt and go into a manager/co-owner/GM role for a while. then back to wrestling.

i wouldnt be shocked to see him back for a match like once every year or so though
