Bingo 🙂 There are lots of subtleties to this, a good brief read I just found on the subject, although a few years old, is here :

IIRC Carmack stated that at Quake-con that they may release a 75GB uncompressed texture pack. But good luck finding servers for that 😛, unless they sell it on disc for a cheap price for distribution costs...
Task Manager shows this shit disappearing fast.
Performance/Memory shows

Uses a GB just to turn the lights on.
Maybe Ill add that last GB just to max 'er out.
So does anyone have an HD4250 to test this game on? I'll lol if it actually plays worth anything at all on that thing.
In my opinion, I would wait for a price cut and fixes.
so...I'm guessing a quad core phenom II + 5850 (1gb) would be no problem, right?
I'm waiting for a ~$20 price on this, anyway.
You can definitely max this game on that computer, but where you might have trouble is if they release the 75gb super texture pack Carmack hinted at. All those mega mega textures have to either go through the cpu or run off Nvidia cuda. It really doesn't care how powerful your video card is so long as it has as much vram as possible. If you don't have an Nvidia gpu, the more cores you cpu has the better. Its all about the raw bandwidth instead of gpu number crunching.
Ditto. Its a good game, but nothing to write home about and with all the brouhaha over the launch I expect a price cut pretty soon. Some people might even want to wait for Carmack's hinted at 75gb super high definition texture pack to be released so they can play the game in all its glory from the start.
cool. I got an offer recently to download some more RAM, so I think I'll go and do that. ..
The fuck? Is it just me or does this game use textures very inefficiently? I mean, what kind of 10 hr game could possibly require 75GBs to look good?
Just Cause 2 looked good with a ~5GB game folder
The Witcher 2 had sharp textures with a 14GB game folder
I forgot how large the Metro 2033 folder size is, but it's definitely no larger than 20 GBs, and the textures are amazing in that game.
Its not just ram you need, but vram on your video card. Crossfire and sli don't count either, it has to all be on one video card.
