Perhaps there's some history we dont know about? Such as how they've had marital problems in the past and she's admitted to him that she slept with his brother, possibly even prior to their marriage? Who knows the true story!? I DONT!

It doesn't sound entirely fake. The woman reacted pretty accurately after being told he was going to be fired (before the part about the secretary). She was trying to reason with him pretty well.
