EdipisReks, I think the problem I was having with FSAA not working was a driver bug which is likely fixed by now so it probably won't be a big problem.

There's a really nice FSAA comparison (speed comparison) of the Geforce 2 GTS, MX, Radeon DDR, Kyro II (32mb VividXS and 64mb Herc 4500) and Voodoo5 in the new firingsquad Kyro II review so you might want to look at that for some indication of Radeons FSAA performance. The comparison features SS, Q3, Evolva, MDk2 and UT, in some of the tests the Kyro II's 4xFSAA is actually faster then MX and Radeon's 2xFSAA!!!! (not turning this into a Kyro II thread but I just thought I'd mention that as it speaks volumes for Radeons FSAA speed). The tests are using Win98 SE but for Win2k performance just imagine the Radeon %10 slower at lower res (the high res FSAA tests would probably be the same speed as there so bandwidth limited).

Here's the URL for the first page of the FSAA comparison part of the review: http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/kyro2/page14.asp

in terms of FSAA, those scores would be fast enough for me. the voodoo5 and the geforce2 don't have the features that i want. the kyro II is fast in FSAA and in high rez, but once again, it doesn't have the features that i want. by the time i go about building my system, the radeon II will be out, but i'm sure it'll be too expensive for me. really, the only card that i have seen with most of the features that i want is by asus, i believe its the v7700 Deluxe. does anyone know if it has good 3d and 2d image quality. great, now i'm going off topic :p its all academic, really, as i still want the DVD peformance, 32 bit color speed, and EMBM that the radeon has.

does anyone know if the asus 7700 deluxe has good DVD playback? i know it won't be as good as the rage theater chip, but none of the reviews i saw addressed the DVD quality.

thanks,

p.s. i still want the radeon, i just want to cover all my bases :D

thats not a very happy win2k UT score :disgust:. maybe i'll go dig up a pair of voodoo2's, as i really want to use win2k only.

can't we all just get along? :(

I haven't played UT in W2K yet, but as far as TFC, CS, Tribes2, & Giants, I haven't noticed a considerable drop in performance betweedn W2K & winME

I went all Windows 2000 about a month ago. With my NVIDIA card, my system has yet to crash. And I run lots of games, workstation applications (3DSM, Lightwave, Photoshop, Go Live, etc) and also browse the web. I won't be upgrading to Windows XP anytime soon cause I really love Windows 2000 right now. I can't say how good or bad Radeon or KyroII is but NVIDIA sure works great. I am not going back to Windows 9x ever I think. Now if only Adaptec provided a BIOS for my 29160 that supported suspend, then I'd be perfectly happy with my system.

i've noticed from reviews that nVidia win2k drivers are rather nice. i read at aceshardware.com that the first nForce boards will be out at the end of august. if the boards are good and have at least 5 pci slots, i may just get one of those, and rely on the onboard video and sound (which should be nice)for a while and then upgrade the vid card and sound card next summer. that should save me money compared to a stand alone mobo, a vid card, and a sound card. saving money is very important to me, since the place at that i work just cut hours at the end of last week, and i haven't found a second job yet.

thanks a lot!

that sounds like a sound solution if you are willing to wait. The onboard video wont be as good as a Radeon, but it'll perform better than an MX, which aint TOO shabby. Im sorry i couldn't give you my opinion in time, since apparently the friend that has the win2k cd has become impossible to contact in any way :( But if you are deciding on a nForce motherboard, then I support your your decision

thanks anyway, jobberd. if you are a student or employee at a university, then you can get a copy of win2k for fairly cheap under the regular academic license. i am a student/employee of a university that has a license with microsoft (in other words they own our education), so i was able to get my copy for $10.00. the nForce looks really promising. do you know if the vid chip will use system memory, or if it will have dedicated ram? i have heard both.

well, thanks a lot, jobberd, and good luck getting a copy of win2k!
