Radeon vs GeForce, what is better?

are FX5800's even still being made? I thought the 5900 series replaced the 5800's?

Either way the Radeon 9800 series seems to offer better bang for the buck.

Radeon (GPU) is much more cooler that GeForce FX

Radeon has better drivers & Software Support than Geforce FX
ATI don't clock there GPU to the max But Geforce Clock there GPU to the MAX
ATI Has program there Video card if the Video card hang the video card will restart the card

Cooler smaller heatshink Better look

Radeon 9800 Pro

How does that have anything to do with performance? How do you know it runs cooler than the GeForce FX series?

Usually nVidia drivers are better than ATi, but not that much. ATi has improved though.

Huh? I see you have absolutely no clue about graphics cards.

Pretty much a feature in Windows XP that enables your system to reboot in case a program crashes.

If you buy video cards based on these features, would you like to buy my Diamond Viper S220 (Rendition V2200) since it's cooler, smaller, and cool looking? 🙂

That's WHY the FX5900 runs so darn hot... to compensate for its lower performance, it had to be clocked MUCH higher.

um..... 😕 I don't think so... restarting a card WITHOUT rebooting is not quire the same as rebooting when a program crashes. 😉

In this day and age where computers are only getting physically smaller, why would you want a 2-or-3 slot cooling "solution"? More fans = more noise, too. You may not use your PCI slots, but I certainly do, and I won't sacrifice them for unnecessary fans.

Again, prove how it is running hotter. Unless you got a 5800 Ultra on your hands, you have nothing to show for it.

Again, you have no evidence of any sort. The GeForce FX series were manufactured at 0.13 micron, thus allows it to run at higher speeds. The Radeon 9700/9800 are manufactured at 0.15 micron and the 9800XT is pretty much at the speed limit without any voltage modifications.

Restarting a video card results in the computer being rebooted unless the OS manages to contain and shut down the *crash*. Since my ATi Radeon 9800 Pro crashed a couple times last week, the OS rebooted the system and reported that the Radeon 9800 was the cause of it. Hmm....unless you have a magic feature in your card, this ain't happening here.

If you're talking about a HTPC, then small is good for you. I haven't seen big cases go out of style at all lately so unless you're speaking of another planet, then I have no idea. As for fans, not everyone has super sensitive hearing like you do and I have five and they don't bother me. Even if you need all your PCI slots, I'm sure you're aware that it's recommended to leave a PCI slot (nearest the AGP) open even for the 9800 Pro. Oh, another thing is that the 5800 Ultra can exhaust the heat from the card while the 9800 doesn't (so where does that heat go?) I'll leave it to you to figure that out. For a diamond member, you don't impress me very much.

Comparing apples to oranges, the 5800 is an older-design card which is no longer made. Its cooling solution was very noisy and was a marketing blunder for Nvidia. If you want to compare the 9800pro to its Nvidia 'equivalent' rival, you're looking at the 5900u - but the 9800pro still wins in my opinion, and in that of most others here.

🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁
I could go into the details about why the 9800 doesn't NEED to exaust the heat out the back so desperately because it doesn't generate as much in the first place, or defend my diamond member status.... but I'm sure you couln't hear me because of your fan-induced deafness anyways. 😉

Huh? Since when?

I will certainly agree that in the last round ATi had the better hardware, but NV still had better drivers. I owned a 9700 Pro when I got my FX 5900, so I am speaking from experience, not from what I read somewhere.
