I have 2 of these on 2 computers with via133/A....one with w98, one with w2k...no problem at all. Interestingly, the anoying splash screen doens't come up in w2k.

I'm planning to at pci no.9 revolution card to run an sgi monitor...does anyone know if it'll work?

why does ati.com say:

ATI's HYPER Z? technology reduces memory bandwidth consumption resulting in improved performance

under the Radeon VE, I am not saying you are wrong, just wondering.

radeon ve @ ati.com

I thought on the VE there's less pipelines and no T&L but it still had the HyperZ feature? Which is software anyway, right?

Generally speaking, the Radeon VE is not the same as the Radeon LE. The VE is not really a gaming card. It was developed as ATIs solution as a dual display card. You can check out Anand's review of the VE here. You'll notice that both the GeForce2 MX and the Radeon SDR outperform it in almost every category. This tells you that the VE is not a gaming card. However, if you want dual display for a cheap price, this is a decent deal. Or you can check out the Matrox G450 at Newegg for $71 (16MB) to $93 (32MB) shipped here. Matrox is a great producer of dual display technology.

As for a good budget gaming card, you can try the 32MB Radeon LE at Newegg for $77 shipped or the 64MB Hercules Prophet 4500 Kyro II at Newegg for $116 shipped. Both are great budget cards with a lot of potential. Anand's review of the LE can be found here. You'll see that the LE is almost as good as the 32 MB Radeon DDR once the HyperZ Technology is unlocked. Oh yeah, and it destroys the Radeon VE when it comes to gaming. The review of the Kyro II can be found here. Again, you'll see exceptional performance for a great price once you consider that it keeps company with the likes of the GeForce2 GTS, Pro, and Ultra. Well, that's my two cents.

Thanks, Bestill, you hit all the points I was going to make.

Yes, yes, yes. The VE is a crippled Radeon core. HyperZ is really important as you get to larger resolutions (1024x768x32).

Unless you are dying for dual display, don't by the VE. Go to newegg.com and get an LE or an LE w/ TV-out.

I just picked up a flier from Best Buy last week and they are selling this card and have it listed under a $30 price drop for $99.99, so I'm sure the price is going to come down on it everywhere soon. Is this deal with a CC rebate or a manufacturers rebate btw?

PM the card using BB flyers to Staples, use $25 off $100 coupon.
Should be around $80 (including tax)
or lower if rebate is aplicable.

They don't have it ?
almost every Staples store in my area here have 2 or more.
some store even have both VE and PCI version. both can be had for $100 - $25 coupon (maybe minus rebate too)

<< ATI is suck >>

ain't that the truth! I don't care if they come out with a card that blows away the GF3 for $50. Wouldn't buy it:p
