Here's a google translation for the non-Germans amongst us.

The refresh of the successful GPU RV770, RV790, which may have already come in 40nm, is also known as MultiGPU enter the market. We got first-hand information, the data of these new graphics cards to disclose.

According to recent rumors, the RV790 is already starting in March, possibly at the Cebit, introduced and presented. According to current speculation, it is already in a 40nm feature size can be produced.

For AMD internal sources could we find out that there is an ATi Radeon HD4970 GPU as a single variant will. The information is interesting, however, the name of the new dual-GPU graphics card. These statements should be confidential, according to the name ATi Radeon HD4995 X2 receive based on the recently published multi-GPU graphics card Nvidia GeForce GTX295 which the performance crown back into the house of the manufacturer sought.

AMD has already rejected the naming scheme of the AMD Phenom II 920 & 940 to the Intel Core i7. So now you also want to try some "performance similarity" GeForce GTX295 and Radeon HD4995 X2 manufacture.

hen the new graphics cards refresh on the market are not yet known. We keep them up to date.

by the title of your topic summary, I take it you don't like the name? I appreciate the post about interesting up and coming hardware. However, I incidentally want to gouge my eyes out due to the typical posting trend I notice with you. Up and coming Nvidia news...... The bomb, awesome features, cool name and ground breaking technologies. Up and coming ATi news...... The SUX, unneccasary features, lame names and washed up technology.

** edit unless it is just me I can always notice a negative tone in your ATi related posts. For that matter in all your post since you have the Derek Wilson quote in your sig

hmm, 4780 vs. GTX280, now it's the 4995 vs. GTX295

It's like how MS didn't want to give any advantage to the competition and skipped naming the Xbox 360 the Xbox 2 since PS3 had a higher number :p

gah, nevermind, I switched the 7 and the 8 and didn't realize there is no card named the 4780 [/quote]

He never stops, it's really sad that he spends most of his time here in the forums doing this. A little advice for you Wreckage, it might seem like an insult but that's not my point but you really need to grow up and get a life!

Sweet, I love it when new high-end cards come out. I'm looking to upgrade to a new midrange card (4870 or GTX260) in the next few months, and these releases always help prices drop.

Come on guys, knock it off with the thread-crapping. If you want to discuss the merits of card's name -- good/bad/irrelevant/etc -- have at it, but don't make the focus of this thread a particular member...

I wonder why the x2 part in the name.. I'd say 4930, 4950, 4970 and 4995 would be the best choices :) I was never a fan of the x2 suffix.

As for performance, let the competition begin! :p Again :D Ohh I can see all the flame wars, harsh discussions and bans incoming :p:D

Dual GPU

I know :p That's not what I meant :) I wasn't very clear.

Since the "4995" part already distinguishes it from "4970", why didn't they leave it at that, but increased both the last number and added a "x2". I find it strange personally, but maybe it's just me ;)

They went with the 95 at the end to match the naming of the GTX295 or at least that's what I got from the article.

AMD actually had a wonderful naming system going, why did they take the path of NVIDIA and make a cluster**** out of it? Oh well, good find, looking forward to some performance quotes/information :D.

I actually think ATI is smart for doing this. A buddy of mine was looking into a an SLI setup recently and he had not even considered a GTX 295 until I suggested it. He didn't know it was dual card. I think it would be much easier for the average consumer to figure out that a 4870X2 is a pair of 4870s than a GTX 295 is a pair of GTX 260s (or thereabouts).

Well, they copied Intel's new chip names (PhII 920/940 - Core i7 920/940) so why not nVidia's GPU names?

what i like is the part about running out of numbers.

5 years ago the 9800 was a golden card - for ATI and gamers and people who did CAD work.

today, the 9800 rides again - as a re-named nVidia 8800GT.

i almost got the 8800GT but they re-named it and i couldn't figure out which was which,
to correlate the 8800GT that got such high marks, with the 9800 model numbers. i wanted
a card that had been out at least a year to avoid driver problems. ended up getting the
ATI 3870.

I guess it would make more sense to have it be HD 4970x2? But then again it's less confusing than 8800gt --> 9800gt --> GTS series.

And why did they make the 8800gs 9600gso? I can understand 9600gs. But why GSO?

Phew, I've been waiting forever to ask that question. :p
