Radeon 9600 pro

You all recommended the Sapphire 9600 pro for $66 on Newegg. I got it, installed it fine... as my last post said.

I got BF2 from ebay the other day.. installed.. played a little on LOW settings and it did fine. I upped everything to medium settings and it was little jumpy. I turned off all of the anti aliasing and dianamic light and shadows. It looks pretty good and its not jumpy at all.

I wanted to thank all of you for your help!

Since you all seem very smart, and I now trust your advice even more than before:
Kingston value ram : 2x512 for around $70 on newegg? Should I get that with my current 2x256? Or get better quality 2x256 and run 4x256?

BF2 runs better with 2Gb RAM, how many slots do you have available?, is it a dual channel board/CPU? Details details!

I have 4 slots dual channel. I don't really want to pay for 4x512.. So I was going to possibly get 2x512 and the move the 2x256 over to have 1.5g?

i don't think your computer would be able to fully use the 2 gigs of ram. There was a thread sometime ago talking about how he didn't see any improvement going from 1 gig to two gig.

don't get 4x256 cuz you'll be a lot better off uprading in the future with 2x512

i have a suggestion. keep your 512mb and add the 2x512mb for a total fo 1.5gb. bf2 loves 1.3gb or more and the 2t drop wont be as bad as having 512mb of ram, because the quantity will make up for it.

Yeah, I dont really want 2gigs. I have 2x256. I said I was thinking about getting 2x512 Kingston Valueram (abour $70 on newegg). I would move my 2x256 to slot 2 and 4, and have the 2x512 in slot 1 and 3. Run 1.5.
My question I guess was would I be better off buying that ram at $70 or buy another 2x256 (to end up with 4x256) of a little better qualilty?

Again... THANKS to everyone who helped me decide on my 9600 pro!

No, don't get better quality if it's more expensive..

your ram speed will be limited to the slowest stick in your setup anyway.
You should try to get a gig either way. But if you like to play BF2 alot, I'd just sell the 2x256mb and drop for a decent 2x1gb set.

How will my gaming change with 2gig instead of 512mb? It just loads a little slow... but other than that I wouldn't think it would help anything else?

have you tried to flash it to an XT? greatly improves speed for free.

Thats nice - 9600 pro is still a good card I play farcry/kohan 2 and civ 4 in my 2.6C office machine at work and it runs fine at 10x12. ( btw- I work 3 or 4 days a week at site so I'm not "stealing" employers time)😛

By flashing it does that mean oc? I don't really want to fry it... Its just got the heatsync and the fan and its a got a sound card right below it.

And there are like 6 for the 9600 pro. which do I use?

9600 pros are underclocked from factory. Take a look at your card's memory manufacturer, and try to use the one with same memory manufacturer.

If u don't want to overclock it, flash it with one that says 500/300.

b/w, whats the last 2 digits on your memory chip ?
whats your cards brand?

ok.. take a look at your ram chip
who manufactured the chip? you should see a numbers on your chip

what is the last 2 numbers? it should be after the '-'

umm.. you should have 4 or 8 of them.. they are rectangular/square black colored soldered onto the board...

oh ok. I think there are 4... I'll check later. This matters as to which one of those flash things I download?

Yes. has to be same manufacturer... I mean.. its best if they are same manufacturer.. and also its speed (the last 2 digits on them)

I will post that tomorrow.

The software that came with it has an overclocking function. I shouldn't play with that should I? I dont want to run the risk of frying it.
