I've been having the arguement with someone...I moderate a forum and some racial jokes were posted insulting black people, jewish, etcetera and I removed the posts in question. Now the user thinks it was wrong of me to do so. ~_~

Are you ever insulted by racist remarks found in jokes?

Because I don't like to shut people up. If he feels like arguing, I'll gladly explain my views and opinions. It's not a dictatorship. 😉

if ALL parties involved know it's in jest, it's OK. but you did the right thing, since there are a few people out there who might be offended. racist jokes should be told privately.
 
It's about intentions, not the joke inself.

If you really mean the thing said in the joke, it's offending, if not, then joke on.
 
I'm Indian and many of my friends call me "Brown" on a daily basis, not a big deal at all and so racism in jokes doesn't offend me.
 
If you want to tell a racist joke, you had BETTER make sure it's gonna be funny to your audience (and you and your audience are not racist themselves). There's nothing worse than a bad racist joke or a racist joke told by a truly racist person.
 
Most of the time they are fine. I have been in situations where the jokes definitely crossed a line where it isn't funny anymore, but it is very rare.
 
did he use racial slurs or just like stereotype? if its racial slurs, then you should remove them.
it would be easier if we knew what the jokes were.
 
Your forum, your rules. If he doesn't like them, he can leave. That's how I moderate my forums.
