"Race to the top" recruitment thread: Correlizer Project

well, I switched my AMD box (720be @ X4, 3.4GHz) over to ubuntu to enjoy the increased performance. Correlizer Applications 1.07 tasks which were taking 15 minutes are now completing in 13.5 minutes, which is in line with what I was expecting. What I wasn't quite prepared for was this (taken from the details link in the Computers on this account view of My account) :

win7-x64
Measured floating point speed 2815.06 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 8257.46 million ops/sec

ubuntu 11.10 64-bit
Measured floating point speed 3247.83 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 16184.35 million ops/sec

Good times.

Though after looking through the wow, you can install ubuntu from windows! thread I gather that it was the Beta WU's which were seeing a 2x speed-up from the doubled INT speed. And the server doesn't appear to send those out anymore.

Oh well, this C2 Heka core wasn't going to give me another 10% increase from clock speed anyway.

OK, I joined with a 1090t AMD hex @ 4 ghz, but it says "no work available to process" in the boinc window.

Edit: now its working, but only using 34% of the cpu ??? 2 cores of 6 ?

Hello Markfw,

This one is new to me but check out the Correlizer Preferences in your account.
The first setting there is called resource share...what is it set at?

Also on your boinc client, do you have other projects running?
I guess another 'obvious' question...in your task list, do you have plenty of WUs?
Some members are reporting lack of WUs.

Let me know.

my first project only used 2 cores on my x6 also, the second project went to 100% use.

I woke up today and checked the box. its taking 20 minutes per unit, and cranking 100% now, with 6 projects at once.

I suppose this is as good of a way as any to burn in the rigs destined for Craigslist 🙂

You should see me turning up a few computers this weekend... not the desired hexa cores, but some duallies and quads.

LOLz...

a Distributing Computing PC will keep yo u warm at night.
A Big plus for the cold nights we been having.. 😛

😛

I almost feel bad for SETI.GERMANY...:ninja:

I've about halfway convinced myself that I really need a 3930k instead of a 2500k. Somebody please talk me out of this before my wife finds out!!

But it has uploaded nothing, and done nothing... WTF ??

Are you certain? you should check the Tasks view from the Your Account section of their webpage. But I warn you, those pages load slooooooow.

Oh and that .JPG looks fine to me.

edit: here's your tasks information

State: All (393) | In progress (59) | Pending (334) | Valid (0) | Invalid (0) | Error (0)
Application: All (393) | BioMedical Genome Correlations (4) | Correlizer Applications (389) | Correlizer Beta Applications (0) | Correlizer Embedded Applications (0)

I did, and there are a lot, but still no completed units or credit.... WTF ??

the 334 pending tasks are completed but are awaiting validation, either because the wingman cruncher hasn't turned theirs in yet, or because the server hasn't compared them yet.

From what I've seen, it takes about 24 hours before the credits start coming in, and even then, it's at a pretty slow pace initially.

Work #
Tasks ready to send 7,470
Tasks in progress 81,585
Workunits waiting for validation 9,888
Workunits waiting for assimilation 1,529
Workunits waiting for file deletion 1
Tasks waiting for file deletion 2
Transitioner backlog (hours) 22

Yeah, as of this afternoon (all day, really) I had 9 credit. That was after crunching for 24+ hours. Something kicked in, and now I have 317 credit. That's 34 valid tasks, and I still have another 473 pending. It's at least moving a bit faster for me now.

Wow, so my 2.7 Ghz E5400 totally destroys my older e6400 Core2 - did they really tweak FPU performance that much?

I mean, it's 570 mhz faster but crunches these things almost twice as fast and its FPU rating is ~3000 whereas the e6400 is reporting ~2000.

Their system looks to be very similar to SETI. Don't worry, you'll get credit for those WU's, it just takes a while on many of them. I've had as much as 400k pending credit with SETI in the past, especially when they had too much work to process, and Correlizer is certainly experiencing a huge spike right now as we attempt to definitively prove that a real TeAm is superior to one small country. 🙂🙂

I don't quite understand it either. My laptop has a Celeron T3100, which is a 1.9Ghz dual-core C2D-derivative. Unsure how much cache it has.

Anyways, the laptop takes nearly an hour per WU. My Q9300 @ 3.0 takes around 20 minutes per WU.

I don't think that each core of the quad-core is three times faster than the dual-core.

AMD cpus slaughter Intel's in this project. Kinda makes me sad for my i920 🙁

It makes me really happy. This is probably the only time that I'll EVER get to say "My $50 AMD Phenom is faster than your 4ghz i7 920! HA-HA":biggrin::biggrin:
(and all the AMD fans rejoice)

Well, now it say work done 977, and avg work 93, but I have no idea how good that is for 36 hours.
