R9800 non pro - Where to buy?

I keep hearing alot about the 9800 non pro being available for 299.00 at best buy. I'm wondering if anyone knows where to purchase it online (maybe for a cheaper price). I haven't been able to find it anywhere, and i've only been able to find one review about it.

Anyone know why it is nowhere to be found or where i can get more performance numbers about it?

I was just getting ready to post the same thing. I seen it today at bestbuy. But there is no info about it anywhere. Not even on ATI's website.

Yeah, im wondering if there are some "suprises" about the card that may be different from the 9800 pro, besides the clock and mem speed which i assume are lower (how much lower, i dont know).

If i can find this card for cheaper than 299 then it would be ideal for my budget. If it performs even slightly better than a 9700 pro, then it will satisfy my performance requirements as well...

ATi developed the 9800np for OEMs ... its a pretty good card, fitting in between 9700pro and 9800pro. That being said, its not as revolutionary as the 9700pro nor as fast as the 9800pro. I'd rather buy a 9700pro and save a few $$$s or go all out for the 9800pro

Why is there no info one this card!
Is this some kind of Secret or something?
All referances to it are 2 months old, everyone is discounting it as not being worth it because they thought it was gona cost $350.
$299 Retail is less than the 9700pro OEM.
We need some better testing on this thing!

I just scored a 5794 on 3dmark 2003
2.8g p4 800fsb
9800np set to 380/340 (standard pro settings)
256m ram
win xp

No artifacts, no optimization.

Even though I said I would not buy from ATI , I got one of these from Best Buy. My 3dmark2001 has been running about 12300 to 12500, which sucks. I think I should be getting at least in the 14,000 range. I even reformatted and did a fresh install of XP for this thing.

Did you try overclocking it to pro speeds? did you pay $299.99?

Oh what resolution and settings did you get your 3dmark scores? cause ATI AIW 9800 pro gets 12903 at 1600x1200 and 17856 at 1024x768 (both with no AA or AF) and that is with a p4 3.0c on 875 board. That should make you feel better, unless your were running the tests at 1024x768....that would make your card lose to the all in wonder 9800 pro by more than 5000 marks. Ouch.

I am running a P4 2.4 , ASUS P4S8X, 1024 of Samsung PC2700 DDR, and the card is at 374/324. My 3Dmark2001 scores were at default 1024x768 with 32bit color.

rickon66

you said the card was running at 374/324....is this out of the box timing?

Could you post info on the mem chips that are on the card?

I was at best buy and looked at the cards. they had the pro but no non pros.

Hey only $400 I should have got 2.

Hook yourself up with at least 256mb more ram... u're crippling your computer. It's dirt cheap.

My card came with infineon 3.0ns ram. It was clocked at 324 core and 290 ram. It is going back to BB if I can't figure out why it is so slow.

Everyone: rickon bought the ATi 9800 Pro, and those are Pro speeds. ATi will never sell non-Pro cards at retail, those are only for OEM's. Thus maybe Visiontek will start selling a 9800 (non-Pro), but probably only after sales of the Pro have cooled off, to maximize profit.

Edit: What the ... rickon, you bought a non-Pro at BB? What brand? Which store?

It is an ATI retail model, I WISH it was a PRO. They put crappy 3.0ns ram on it, that will only run in the 320-330mhz range. This card should be doing 14 to 15K 3dmark2001 when overclocked. I have a fresh install of XP PRO, all the latest mobo drivers, and OMEGA's 3.4 drivers. My old GF3 Ti200 will do about 7000 3dmarks with my rig.

Um, I still don't believe you. ATi generally doesn't sell non-Pro cards retail, and they don't even list the 9800 non-Pro on their site or in their shop. BestBuy doesn't list it, either, and the only 9800NP I found via PriceWatch or PriceGrabber was an FIC for $380.

Well Pete, If you would like to put a little wager on the issue let me know. I think it is pretty crappy to call me a liar based on YOUR faulty assumptions.

Pics of box or card please? :camera:

I too remember in many ar ticles reading that ATI will not sell non pro cards...

yep never make one and ATI never lies, or decieves anyone ROFL
8500LE anyone....called that after 6 months of people getting the big one
and they DID sell a bunch of them to dell and gateway, and they just called them
the 8500.

Now if rickon66 will send me the card I will hold the card for 8-10 months of testing
and let you know what ram and speeds it will run.

any bets can be sent to me...yep just fax your checks here directly

But I bet that ATI build some for retail sales when BB said look we want 10,000
but $400 if just toooo Fing high.
What can you give me for $300, why the same thing we sell to dell that we don't make
either.

I bet that whitetiger is right about the weekend.
