this would seem to confirm the rumors that r580 taped out already. seems ati only really has trouble with one of its .09u parts, out of 4.

Out of 5.
R500, R520, RV515, RV530 and R580 are all 90nm, and it *seems* like only the R520 has problems.

Looks like people will be holding off for the 580 after all.
I think 580 is based on 530 core which is one reason why it taped out correctly.
This would mean that all 530 are 580 with bad yields in pipes.
The 520 was going to keep the Crown while they were stocking up on 580 but it just came to late. I can only think of the Price for them being $600+

Woot. ATI gonna kick some ass during the holidays and in 2006. We'll see how Nvidia does with their 90nm shrink. Some people on this forum were saying that the Geforce GO 7800 GTX was a 90nm part. Well they were wrong... it's not.

I love it when you guys link an article from HKPEC. The abundance of question marks and silly smilies make me laugh.

:)

That's very interesting that ATI may be shipping their R580 by the end of this year. I wonder what this chip holds?

Ready for fall shipments...

Willikers! ATI has gone from being months late to leap frogging their MIA products!

Next, we'll have the R600 before Christmas.

The bad news? The R580 is a R520 with a 10MHz speed bump, and the R600 is a R520 with a 20MHz speed bump. ;)

(kidding of course)
if it isn't Rollo. Rollo for past few month i have been reading this forum , you maybe the biggest ATI basher in this whole forum. I am already starting to hate video thread because of your fan boy comment. I come to a simple conclusion that your sole wish is to see ATI die and NVIDIA gain the whole market so when NVIDIA release a crappy product you wouldn't have to justify your buy since their is no competition product.

i wasn't aware R500 was actually put to silicon, or is it the xbox gpu?

Or they all had the same problem and finding one fixed them all...

so if we're going to take a radeon family tree, seeing as how the R500 is integrated super shader/vertex pipelines or whatnot, the R520 isn't really an R500 variant, correct?

ATI GPU is more like an mid version of R600. its got alot features that you will not see on desktop for a long time.

They haven't announced or released anything yet! Us reading some BS on a Asian website doesn't count as a paper launch!

Correct. The R520/RV530/RV515 are not variants of the R500. It's a completely different chip. I think the R600 (successor to the R580) will be the chip that is similar to the R500, except on the desktop.

If ATI has this God of a chip in the R600, which they can produce in large quantities, why are they bothering with all these other less advanced chips. Why cant they just modify R600 for desktop and skip all the rest??

They havent paper launched anything.

You're going to have to find a new argument, other than the old X800XT/PE one. They did much, much better with the next cards. We have no idea how these cards are going to be available. Its time to move on.

Is everybody new here?! R580 being ready shouldn't surprise anyone that has been around since the 5800/5900. The 5800 was way behind schedule, but the 5900 still shipped only a few months after the 5800. The design of the R580 was probably ready, and lessons learned from the manufacturing process can likely be applied to R580.
