lol...the inquirer has once again contradicted its own statement now saying that the R520, RS200 motherboard and AMR will be released at computex....the inq is getting more and more unpredictable by the day.

Wait- does that mean I have to go back to being sad about having spent good money on SLI?!??!

LOL

Good news for all if true, and they can get cards to market.

Do they say released, or previewed?
The G70 is supposed to be shown at Computex, but definately not released (3rd quarter release).

You know, it's funny you mentioned SLI, because after having read this article on techreport I don't see SLI giving you as huge improvement as I think it should. Look at the 16*12 +AA benches, and compare the SLI setups to the single 6800u and x850xtpe setups.

In some instances a single x850xtpe is faster than the 6800gt SLI setup, and that's at 16*12 +AA. Why is that? If I shelled out the money for 2 high end cards, I'd feel pretty bad if a single card of the same gen beat my SLI setup, even if only in some situations. And if the rumors are true about next gen cards being 2x as fast as current gen cards, then I have no doubt one of them will absolutely cream a 6800u SLI setup, even more so than the SLI setup beats a single card today.

Anyway, don't feel bad, you still have a few months left to brag about having the fastest (most of the time) video card setup.

Oh Munky. Please stop this terrible p3wning. I am so regretting having the second fastest gaming rig on the planet.
Arrrrrgggggggg, how could I have been so foolish??????!!!

As far as my "few months" goes, no matter what comes out I don't know what benefit it will offer me. You see, my monitor goes up to 16X12 at 85Hz, my preferred gaming refresh rate.

There aren't any games I can't play at 16X12 4X8X? So I feel pretty good now, I'll still feel pretty good then. ;)

BTW- I'll feel pretty good for everyone that gets this level of performance when the new cards come out as well.
It's not about "bragging rights", it's about "having fun with hobby". I truly hope you all get G70s and R520s next month, for free for all I care.

While those tests probably reflect average framerates, they do not indicate minimum framerates which is often a place where SLi can make a huge difference. Since they made their test files publically available, it would be easy enough to reproduce it and record the min/max as well as the avg to see if the benefit is visible.

you DO understand that the X850 was released way later than the 6800ultra don't you? it was MEANT to be the best out there...besides the lack of SM3.0 support, but i wont go into that...jeez...make a smart argument...

Anyone remember how they swore up and down about 8 months ago that the nForce4 would have Soundstorm 2? I wonder if they just make up stuff to attract readers sometimes....:p

Remember that SLI and SM 3.0 hardware are only useful features when ATI finally comes out with a part that can use them ;)

Actually no. SM3.0 will be a useful feature WHEN it actually shows significant improvement over SM2.0(b) in actual games (which won't be until Unreal 3.0 in 2006 most likely.) SLI will remain a useless feature for most everyone as most people don't need it and will never need it, besides all the related issues/costs. Next generation cards are rumored to be twice as fast as current gen so even those people wanting to run 16x12 with AA/AF will only need one card. Until SLI offers a 90%+ improvement in ALL games it will NEVER be a "useful" feature.

Please, not the good ol' SM3 debate again...

Until ATI releases an official statement or the cards, everything you guys have heard about R520 are still rumors. Same for Nvidia and G70. Nothing has been confirmed yet. Let's go home.
