R520 in stores as early as this week

It's sort of an oldie, but it's worth it to be refreshed. My informants claim (and Creig should back me up on this) that the 520 in all flavors except the high-end will be easily retailed. However, the high-end part is just not getting enough yield to make it a market feasible chip. The hopes of a Press Edition are also lost.

Old info? Try this: The high-end part was supposedly 24 pipes, but due to yields, only the 16 pipe chip will make it to market. ATi will wait until it moves to the 70nm process before seriously reconsidering the 24 pipe version.

Interesting stuff to say the least. Let's hope the Register got it right this time.

when will R600 be in the shops?

Nov 11th 😉

Creig told me late November, but my other informants say Christmas time.

Doesn't make much sense to release two gens next to each other, but we're talking about ATi here.

But it should be out as a part by Christmas, if ATI wants to get back on top of the graphics leaderboards.

The PC counterpart is not far behind as Bona Fide said.

That would be up to TSMC or UMC (whoever they contracted) getting yeilds up to par, much like the situation now with R520.

'Scuse me? I don't recall telling you anything except to quit making up quotes. What, having the Moderators erase your sig file and telling you to delete any inaccurate quotes you posted wasn't enough?

Grow up.

Hmm, well I heard reports back at e3 that ATi was planning a July release of the r520, then a Jan-Feb release of the r580

HAHA, busted!

Besides, g3pro's 70nm process claim is right out as everyone is going from 90nm straight to 65nm with processors. Also, The Register he linked to is just referencing an article from right here at Anandtech, which noted right at the begining The Register news post you linked to. Since then we have had multiple reports of changes in the roadmap from various sources including right here on this forum from Kristopher Kubicki. the guy that wrote the roadmap article for Anand. Not to mention the fact that even the Anandtech article claims late September for the r520, so even without the new info g3pro's "early as this week" claim is right out.

Judging from the way g3pro attacked me for discussing the flittering troubles with my 6800gt; I'm getting the impression that while it pains him to see anyone disappointed with anything to do with his favorte company, he is actively working to set people up for disappointment with their competition. Anyone have any other ideas as to what the point of this thread might be?

Sorry guys, I just wanted to get you all the information I could.

I'm actually really excited about ATi's new product, and I'm going to purchase it the day it comes out.

God help your wallet.
Buying on day of release usually = bad plan unless you like price gouging.

Sure you are. I bet you buy 100 cards too. Why not make some more silly claims?

What's with the signature there guy? Is spreading FUD about video cards like your thing? I can see this working out for you. Good luck 😉 .

Or maybe he doesn't mind spending mommy and daddy's money? 🙂

I have to wonder why you would do that after saying:

Since you're already convinced that the R520 will be slower than the 7800GTX, why would you be so eager to spend money on one? Hmmmm?

Well I felt the same, but after reading some overly optomistic remarks by Dave Orton regarding super support for HDR - maybe Ati has something very nice coming along.

But it sure as hell isn't coming this week, so it seems pretty obvious to me that g3pro was simply trying to troll up some resentment towards ATI.

Adding a x800xt pe refurb has made me feel quite good about Ati - so I hope they don't release something too soon, that makes me feel I should have waited.
