Perhaps the ATI rep considers the 512MB 6800U to be the R520's competition for the same reason, and is proud to be poised to eclipse nVidia's core technology from Spring 2005!

I assume you mean spring 2004 :)

You do bring up an interesting point though. ATI has not once said that based on their benchmarks that a stock X1800XT will out perform a NVIDIA reference clocked 7800GTX.

Wait until the real perfromance numbers come out and then you can watch your little misconceived notion go *poof* into thin air.

LOL. Do you even know what a pipeline is?

Lol Rollo you are the man. I had a similar encounter at a best buy retail store, those geeks are fools. I even pointed out the 7800GTX/X850XTPE (which they carry) outpace the supposively "better" 512 mb 6800ULTRA. I was shocked and awed.

And what if that's exactly the kind of thinking that the non-educated consumer falls for? Yeah, it's hilarious, but I bet there really are a bunch of n00bs who bought a 512MB geforce 6200 thinking it's the best card. This is hardly a surprise from either company.

Think they'll deliver a 24-pipe part in quantity, any time soon? I don't. I've been waiting for them to do so, hoping they'd pull it off... than and a competitive crossfire solution, but I don't see it all coming together this year.

If Ati is faster than it will have production issues? Man this place is worse than the inquirer for pushing the same old same old, without any basis. If Ati has a better card - than Nvidia will just have to work harder, which is sort of what most of us want?

all reports were the issues were yields and with "leakage issues"...leakage issues are exasperated by speed and voltage it takes to achieve that speed....so it only makes sense that many hardware sites speculating on this would think much higher of a clock speed and the yields may not support this on a high production level...

Are you denying the X850XT PE??? I think that sums it up alone

Sites I have read are speculating if they release a 700 or 800mhz model it will be mainly a paper launch and availability of this card will be hard to come buy. It wont be the more common lower priced card...go figure that is pretty much the same everywhere in all the tech fields......You dont tape it out 3 times, rumor to have 24 pipes and speeds of 700 to start dropping to things like 16pipes and leaking to reporters that models may come in 600mhz if you were not having a production issue related to yields...commonsense use it....

The percentage the higher end cards need to be out of the total is not as high as the other levels, partly related to higher priced segment and that it usually tends to be on the high end of the tech of that generation of silicon.

Yields will truly be understoof once we start seeing the enthusiast by the mid level speed cards and ocing them to the higher speeds...

LOL!!! i am never going to buy any of these uber expensive vid cards...I usually buy a generation behind at a good price and the mid level cards....

I can care less...This has been great fun...

I would like to thank my MOM, all the ATI fanatics and the nVidiots for keeping me entertained while the cpu forum has grown boring with AMDs dominance in most all the lines....

can we just all stop this slinging and wait until the card is actually released? Nothing about the preformance right now is founded and either saying ATI is lying or that they wouldn't make it up still says nothing about the performance of this card.

For now all we can all we can say is:
1. Nvidia has a huge lead in this generation of cards
2. ATI's newest card needs to outperform Nvidia's by a noticable amount in order to change the tide.

This is definately too much for me.

I'm gonna start making my own graphics cards.

Seems to be no shortage of x850pt pe, or the r480 product line? Whatever those problems were, they seem to have been solved. I have read that the issue with the r520 was a soft ground problem, rather than leakage, but who knows. Actually the only site I have read speculating higher clocking is the inquirer, but I will take your word that others are thinking the same thing. I have also read speculation that 600 is much too slow for that tech and higher clocking should be possible without affecting yields. Anyways we will all know soon and at least the most speculative of sites have at last dropped that 32 pipe thing.

Anyone know what the Xbox 360 GPU will be clocked at? It has 24 pipelines, does it not?

This whole R520 thing makes no sense to me in light of the fact that the Xbox 360 will be launched en-masse in a little over a month.

Would I have ever registered up with AT forums if I really wanted to do that?

You guys kill me with this stuff...

1) You read speculative articles about future products, and then tell everyone to wait and see.
2) You read through a 10 page thread and then add a post that tells people that they are wasting their time.

LOL!

A hardware forum is not the place to discuss the futility of a hardware forum. We all know the futility, but we do it anyway...
I personally have close to 2400 posts, and I signed up over a year ago, don't you think at some point it has dawned on me that I was wasting my time?

A hardware forum serves 2 purposes:

1) Get advice for an issue.
2) Discuss computer hardware...

...if you rig isn't broken and you're not fixing someone else's what are you posting on here for?
