Even ATI said it would be "competitive" and we all know that means

Huh? That seems a long way from what the ATI rep actually said.

The real performance of R520 clearly dominates the fastest competitive hardware

All ATI has to do to make Sanders look like an idiot, if they can, is to release some actual benches.

If the ATI rep is telling the truth, and if I were ATI, I'd release the "real" benches today.

Yeah, I see your still hooked on all that's going on right now. I'm talking about ATI's message to their stockholders a few weeks ago. Before any of this crap went down.

At that time, PR spin was that the R520 would be "competitive" with nvidia's top end offering and was not certain it would exceed nv's top of the line offering if ATI could not reach their core speed goal (which I believe was 700MHz). Now suddenly the R520 is said to dominate the competitor's highest offering? So which is it? Competitive? or Dominates? I think ATI is going to do everything they can to release a 700MHz vaporware R520 (X1800XTPE) but won't be available in any quantity. What is so hard to believe about that? You know ATI's history for the past 2 gens/refreshes. (X800/X850).

Are you asking me or telling me? How am I supposed to know what NV knows? ;)

But I'll try anyway. If Sanders benches hold true, then of course a 700MHz R520 would perform a bit better. How much better remains to be seen. Then there is that damnable availability issue.

Keys with all the rumors going around good or bad. I think we can safely say that R520 will perform well . I personnally don't care if their faster than the G70 . If we get better visual experiance thats were its at baby . We are talking about video cards here . So to me when you talk video performance to me its about what you see on that screen. ATI has been no.1 here for a long time and with the reported unfixed shimmer on G70 I think we all know who has better IQ.

Well, Sassen has apparently admitted that the benches are from pre-production hardware.

The problem is, how can anyone trust what he says?

I think if ATI could embarrass him with better benches, they would.

They haven't, so.......

If ATI doesn't embarrass him with better benches pretty soon, I am forced to conclude that they can't.

Keys this really is a non issue any one willing to wait this long for the R 520 has probablly already decided to get a R580. Now if they have 9800pro's or earlier models .
Than R520's are going to be a hugh differance . if the oerformance is the same as G70
than it comes down to IQ perform .We all ready know G70 has a problem there.

We've been over this before. ATI isn't going to change their schedule and announce the product tomorrow just because some guy posts erroneus benchmarks on his website.

It sounds to me ATI knows the benchmarks are not legit because the card isn't even close to done yet. Not sure which is really better...

Change what schedule?

Just release a few preliminary benchmarks.

I see no reason not to.

They are losing sales of people who were waiting......

The schedule that says on such and such date we announce the product and lift the NDA so benchmarks can be published. That's the way it's done and it shouldn't be changed because of Sander Sassen (or whatever is name is).

I think those dates are quite flexible in the industry. :D

Releasing a few benchmarks would make no difference to any schedule.

Guys, don't believe a markteer from any company... ever.

They are paid talking heads that couldn't tell you product A from Product B. Other than the fact that their managers are telling them to push Product B harder, because it's the new hot product on the market.

The only reason I appreciate sales people is for buying me lunch. In that context, I still pick out what I want to eat. ;)

That is not how it works, what the point of NDA then ?

I'd like to bring it to your attention that you don't really know what ATI will do. It's as if you're speaking for them. Which you can't. So don't. Please.

QFT...

If the goal is just to vaporware a high score then fine...it will be done...Reports I read was yields of 700mhz were not going to be good as early as this month so I believe this will be a limited production chip.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26275

However for all those who say Sassen doesn't state it isa preproduction in original thread then what would " I am not sure what final speeds will be" mean??? That is something that could be changed by providing the AIB's with a new bios....

Maybe an 800mhz very very limited edition chip will be launched but liek the PE will be as ellusive as "Bigfoot" or a democrat not race baiting the hurricane Katrina disaster....

Ignoring your wishful thinking, you using the N.O. disaster as a joke seems appropriate.

Some guy over on Rage3d tried to tell me the 512MB 6800Ultra is nVidia's "competing hardware" because the 7800GTX is only a 256MB card.

Perhaps the ATI rep considers the 512MB 6800U to be the R520's competition for the same reason, and is proud to be poised to eclipse nVidia's core technology from Spring 2005!
;)

<braces for replies of "So what?!?! 512 vs 512 is apples to apples!" from ATI faithful, who will then post for months "ATIs 512MB ownz! 1111!!!!1!">
