I am still undecided. AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........

INTERIOR G35>R32

G35 interior is more classy looks wise. More comfortable seats and creature comforts.

R32 very nice interior, well built however no power seats. More no-nonsense functional

TECHNICAL STUFF AND FUN OF DRIVING
R32>G35

Acceleration....negligible difference...both very quick....R32 better torque....Unless you're at a track with a timer probably not much of a difference...R32 slight edge in engin dept...more usable power and the stock exaust sounds SWEET!

Cornering...the edge would go to the R32 IMO due to the smaller exterior...G35 you can feel the size of the car...R32 you can feel the weight more..they both weigh 3400lbs....little hefty compared to my wife's cooper S...damn that cooper spoiled me!...I guess anything besides a shopping cart would be heavier....

The G35 clutch is heavier and so is the shifting. That would be my biggest gripe bout the r32. VERY VERY LIGHT AND SENSITIVE CLUTCH and SHIFTING LIL LOOSE and Light. g35 clutch is a little heavier but still the cooper would pwn them both in this dept. I like a heavy clutch and weight on my gearbox.

Exterior (subject to individual opinion)

G35 > R32
G35 more professional
R32 more 2fast2 furious sleeper version

Cost + wait time for the car I want + negotiation

R32>G35
R32 not selling so well so the sales people are more motivated.

G35 5-7K more than R32

Now I'm thinking about testing a RX-8, but that car is pretty ugly IMO....ohhh mazda why did you kill the RX-7??...now that i can afford one you offer the RX-8!!! lame....

Still a toss up....

You could still get an RX-7... ;) :p

Now that car I would take over any of the cars mentioned so far. :D

Me too if it was new....but I don't want a used car and the car allowance is only good for cars that are less than 5 years old...

have you considered a 330Ci or is that out of your price range

yup, i told u the r32 sounded sweet.

also, for the clutch, wait till u break it in. very nice clutch in my opinion. wait until u take the two cars on the freeway tho. that's when u get the real deal.

keep us posted man

R32 is awd, so you can drive it anytime.

the G is rwd, that means no driving in the snow or heavy rain.

If i had another car, i would pick the G, but if this was my only car, then R32.

Faster != better.
Man you must be an awfull driver if you can't drive a RWD car in heavy rain. Snow can be a little tricky but with good snow tires and all the fancy traction controll crap its not that bad.
Given two identical drivers with identical traction control systems, the car with AWD will always be better for snow/rain/ice than a RWD one.

Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. Even you with your super duper 1337 driving skeelz will do better in an AWD vehicle in the snow than you will in a RWD one.
Unless you race daily in the rain AWD isn't that big of an advantage. For normal driving RWD vs AWD in the rain is pretty much the same. In snow of coarse AWD is better but since gourmettea lives in Santa Monica Ca I doubt that going to come up very often. Its not like they guy is planning to enter snow rallys or something.
so ur trying to say taking left/right turns, as well as big bends in the freeway is the same with RWD as it is with AWD? i'd care to differ, as i have seen AWD do things that would otherwise make me grab the "oh-chit handles" on any other car
big bends on freeways?
pasadena fwy. sunset blvd. mulholland hwy. sepulveda blvd.

not to mention the turn going from the 22east to the 57north.

LUCKY!

I'd see it this way, the R32 could beat the pants out of me everyday of the week from stoplights, and beat me every night on the track, but I'd be willing to bet the G35 is a better everyday driver. At least where i live, i don't have to autocross to get to work, and its more than 1/4 of mile away..;)

german is always better - lasts longer and is engineered better. If it were my choice i'd go with a 20th Anniversary Edition GTi.

If you are looking for good handling, don't go with the R32, its designed to be a touring car and the VR6 (also sounds odd when an aftermarket exhaust is installed as compared to a regular V6) is very heavy and doesnt handle well compared to the 1.8t's (those engines kick out sh!tloads of power). However, if you arent as oriented towards performance, the R32 has a gorgeous interior, and best of all, is VW top quality. so you pretty much cannot go wrong.

Ever thought about a honda S2000 or an M3? (depends on your budget though)

I love driving the G coupe - had it for a year and a half and I still miss driving it when I am out of town. Great combination of looks, sport, and comfort. No idea on the R32's drive but looks like a fun car - my concern would be reliability.

Update:

After a day of reading and evaluating and test driving...I've decided on the R32....

The most important factor for me was that there are only 5000 r32 built for the US. I have a feeling in a few years there will be a gang-loads of G35 on the road....I live in LA and there are as many BMW's as there are Civics and Accords....anyone who lives here can attest to that...

So my car will be more unique and it's more of a sleeper (only tell tail sign is the sleek looks and r32 badge), plus i liked driving it more.

Although the G35 is more PIMPISH looks wise!

There are 486 left in the LA region, so I'm gonna wait for another month when the dealers take delivery of the 2005 GOLFS....let them be more motivated to move the 2004's...

They already offered me $27,500 before taxes and regisration(that's about 3500 off MSRP)...if I can wait a month and knock off another 1500 off the cost....i'll be a happy camper....

Thanks for your opinion...and all of you that voted for the g35 don't flame...don't hate..congratulate (stu scott)...hahaha

I'll post pics when I take delivery....now for the decision of what color??????

RED (cop eyecatcher...but classic GTI color)
or
SILVER

yes the blue looks nice ...but my wife's car is blue...so no blue...

you may want to wait until the MKv golf's are in stock.. coming with 2.0t engines and AWD, supposedto be pretty cool.. and i'd go with red, silver gets very boring after awhile

my friend just bought an 04 r32. i think some people just get drawn in by the vw "personality" . vw owners are fiercely loyal and i think he was sold after sitting in his friends jetta so many times.

it does have a nice interior for a non luxury nameplate, probably better than the 04 g35c.

i probably will get a g35 coupe eventually . basically its $5k more though. oh well. i think its worth it. 0-60 the 5AT coupe is probably the same as a 6 speed r32. i guess thast a wash,.. but the r32 has awd so probably better grip. then again the infiniti just for me seems more stylish. and the 05 interior will be more luxury than non luxury.

i suppose if you like the r32, its kinda like... a non luxury nameplate version of the audi tt quattro. i actually think it looks better.

Don't let anyone tell you that you made a bad decision, because you really didn't. The R32 is an excellent handling car, with plenty of power, and the exhaust note alone is worth the price of admission. But the G35 is a sweet car as well. In this price segment, there's really alot of great options to choose from, and you'd almost have to try to go wrong (i.e., if you had bought a C320 :) ). And go for the red, because everyone and their grandmother has silver cars nowadays.
