3400lbs for a hatch is a porker... nice car though... plus not as many people driving them as G35s. but damn that curb weight. :Q

R32==almost as heavy as my truck, about the same HP, less torque, more drivetrain loss. An F'ING COMPACT!

G35 has a lot of potential

100% false. check out the r32 forums in vwvortex forums. you'll see what im talkin about

come to think of it...the AWD of the r32 makes it more practical here in NJ

ok so its not 100% maxed out.... but how is the potential of a G35 less then that of an R32?

read again. i never said that the potential of the g35 is less than that of the r32. actually i know nothing of the potential of the g35...but i will tell you that it is possible to make that r32 into a 500 whp beast and still keep it as a daily driver.

personally, i'm more inclined toward the r32 just cuz that car is daaaamn sexy...and the exhaust note...wooooooah

So, judging by your 31337 A0L k1dd1e $k1llZ, you drive a riced-out 87 Civic Hatch.

Given that they both weigh about the same, both drive nicely, and are the same price (Free) - why not get the one that obviously looks much better? :p

oh yeah, i'm an 1337 uber h@x0r. pffff

why? cuz the vr6 engine stock can withstand 500hp i think, with stock internals. the tranny alone is rated for 400hp. VW's are always under-rated. that's why i say the R32. sure, it might be heavier. but it's a lot more solid and the stock engine/drivetrain has a lot more potentional.

i'll give u that the g35 looks good. but i can't decent which is better

R32 is awd, so you can drive it anytime.

the G is rwd, that means no driving in the snow or heavy rain.

If i had another car, i would pick the G, but if this was my only car, then R32.

Faster != better.

Man you must be an awfull driver if you can't drive a RWD car in heavy rain. Snow can be a little tricky but with good snow tires and all the fancy traction controll crap its not that bad.

VW doesn't have engine/drivetrain problems, just minor ones of rear passenger windows falling down.

And the interior of the R32 is infinitely better than the crappy American plastic style of the G35/350Z.

No way you could've smoked a G35 unless it was 1) off the line, 2) the G35 was auto, 3) the driver was an idiot, or 4) he didn't know you were racing.

Especially at high speeds when drivetrain losses start showing up.

The R32 engine compartment is cramped, so doing any work will be hard. Also, Infinity >>> VW, so there's no way the R32 would pull more chicks. Maybe gay guys who get a stiffy from the exhaust.

Given two identical drivers with identical traction control systems, the car with AWD will always be better for snow/rain/ice than a RWD one.

Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. Even you with your super duper 1337 driving skeelz will do better in an AWD vehicle in the snow than you will in a RWD one.

i'll let you guys know how the test drive went.....

good choice. my friend has had two R32s....first one got crashed on the freeway when a van skipped over 3 lanes and hit him. his car either rolled or hit the divider (i forget), but nonetheless he came out without a scratch. very safe car.

least to say, the interior of the g35 is flimsy compared to that of the r32, or any german car. get the g35 if u love ur honda. get an r32 if u love to drive. all i can say

oh, and IMHO, the R32 sounds a LOT better than the g35. let me know what you think of the R32. and BTW, the R32 is more of a chick-magnet, esp once they hear you rev it. they're like WTF is that?

heh. that is a good question. i'm sure there are other turbos out there for the R32. but this one makes it in essence a "straight from the factory turbo".

Unless you race daily in the rain AWD isn't that big of an advantage. For normal driving RWD vs AWD in the rain is pretty much the same. In snow of coarse AWD is better but since gourmettea lives in Santa Monica Ca I doubt that going to come up very often. Its not like they guy is planning to enter snow rallys or something.

Maybe i should word it differently.

When i mean heavy rain i mean torrential downpour in thunderstorm. Given that the G has good amount of hp/tourque, it is not the ideal car to be driving under those weather conditions.

Me a horrible driver? Maybe, but i have a FWD, so it isn't a problem.

I also biased toward the R32. Why? cause my brother has a R32 and i have a Jetta vr6.

so ur trying to say taking left/right turns, as well as big bends in the freeway is the same with RWD as it is with AWD? i'd care to differ, as i have seen AWD do things that would otherwise make me grab the "oh-chit handles" on any other car

NO I SAID UNLESS YOU WANT TO DRIVE LIKE A MANIAC IN THE RAIN AWD AND RWD ARE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME WHILE IN THE RAIN. As for the other thing that has more to do with car setup then just being AWD. I certainly wouldn't say my uncle's AMC Eagle AWD or my parent's AWD olds bravada handles awsome.

Update: Just got back from a back to back test drive of both R32 and G35

I am still undecided. AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........

INTERIOR G35>R32

G35 interior is more classy looks wise. More comfortable seats and creature comforts.

R32 very nice interior, well built however no power seats. More no-nonsense functional

TECHNICAL STUFF AND FUN OF DRIVING
R32>G35

Acceleration....negligible difference...both very quick....R32 better torque....Unless you're at a track with a timer probably not much of a difference...R32 slight edge in engin dept...more usable power and the stock exaust sounds SWEET!

Cornering...the edge would go to the R32 IMO due to the smaller exterior...G35 you can feel the size of the car...R32 you can feel the weight more..they both weigh 3400lbs....little hefty compared to my wife's cooper S...damn that cooper spoiled me!...I guess anything besides a shopping cart would be heavier....

The G35 clutch is heavier and so is the shifting. That would be my biggest gripe bout the r32. VERY VERY LIGHT AND SENSITIVE CLUTCH and SHIFTING LIL LOOSE and Light. g35 clutch is a little heavier but still the cooper would pwn them both in this dept. I like a heavy clutch and weight on my gearbox.

Exterior (subject to individual opinion)

G35 > R32
G35 more professional
R32 more 2fast2 furious sleeper version

Cost + wait time for the car I want + negotiation

R32>G35
R32 not selling so well so the sales people are more motivated.

G35 5-7K more than R32

Now I'm thinking about testing a RX-8, but that car is pretty ugly IMO....ohhh mazda why did you kill the RX-7??...now that i can afford one you offer the RX-8!!! lame....

Still a toss up....

Me too if it was new....but I don't want a used car and the car allowance is only good for cars that are less than 5 years old...
