The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday that steroids and other drugs were found in the body of former pro wrestler Chris Benoit, and prescription drugs were also found in the bodies of his wife and son.

Also found in Benoit were the drugs Xanax and hydrocodone, according to the GBI statement. The agency said Benoit was negative for blood alcohol.

The statement said Nancy Benoit had Xanax, hydrocodone and hydromporphone in her body.

The 7-year-old boy, Daniel, had Xanax in his system, which apparently was used for sedation purposes.

The GBI said it could not perform tests for steroids or human growth hormones on the boy because of lack of adequate amount of urine.

Xanax is an anti-anxiety drug. Hydrocodone is a painkiller.

I found the press briefing to be absoutely hilarous. the doctor was breathing heavily throughout. and the press kept hammer at him to give them something to run with their roid rage story.

Yet he kept saying all they found was high levels of testosterone, along with other drugs. . the Reporters though don't quit, minutes later they'd ask the same thing just worded differently. The doctor was looked so frustrated having to repeat himself. I'm guessing he doesn't do press briefings that much.

yes testosterone is a steroid. But I'm willing to bet most people don't realize that it is a the steroid group consists of many hormones, estrogen is classified as a steroid.

people just hear the word steroids and think its the anabolic kind.

You realize that you only bolded the parts where it talks about AAS, not the ones that say it probably is not.

And, what the media fails to realize, injectable test, particuarily testosterone propiagte, which he injected, does not cause increased aggression (roid rage is pretty much a myth), in fact it causes severe lethargy and decreased libdo.

I'd look to the other prescription drugs and mental diseases first.

So did all the knocks to Benoit's head cause brain damage that led to his irrational behavior and murders/suicide?

Just in:

Pro wrestler Benoit's concussions may have contributed to murder, suicide

ATLANTA (AP) ? Canadian Pro wrestler Chris Benoit suffered brain damage from his years in the ring that could help explain why he killed his wife, his son and himself, a doctor who studied Benoit's brain said Wednesday.

The analysis by doctors affiliated with the Sports Legacy Institute suggests repeated concussions could have contributed to the killings at Benoit's suburban Atlanta home.

The wrestler's father, Michael Benoit, told reporters Wednesday that he knows his son had concussions because his son told him so. But he also said he knows of no medical records or records kept by the wrestling league to support the diagnosis.

Steroid use has also lingered as a theory behind the killings, since anabolic steroids were found in Chris Benoit's home. Tests conducted by authorities showed Benoit had roughly 10 times the normal level of testosterone in his system when he died.

The institute, which researches the long-term effects of concussions, co-ordinated the testing using samples of Benoit's brain tissue provided by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The Waltham, Mass.,-based institute's president is former pro wrestler Christopher Nowinski, who has said he had to quit the ring after a kick to the head. Nowinski still has ties with World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., which runs the league he and Benoit were in.

A lawyer for Stamford, Conn.,-based WWE did not immediately return a call Wednesday seeking comment. The company has argued steroid use did not cause Benoit to snap.

Despite the results of the institute's tests, there was no way to know if Benoit's concussions contributed to the murder-suicide, said Dr. Robert Cantu, a member of the institute who also is chief of neurosurgery service at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass..

"Whether it is the sole factor I believe is speculation and I will not go there," Cantu said by telephone.

However, the level of brain damage Benoit had can cause depression and irrational behaviour, Cantu said.

Benoit's brain showed the same degenerative processes that doctors working for the institute found in the brains of three men who had played pro football and committed suicide, Cantu said. There were abnormal protein deposits caused by trauma to Benoit's brain, he added.

There's no evidence that steroid use causes such protein deposits, Cantu said, though he noted the issue has not been exhaustively studied.

Investigators allowed the institute to test Benoit's brain tissue with the permission of his father, who lives in Ardrossan, Alta., near Edmonton.

Michael Benoit said Wednesday that he agreed to the testing because murder-suicide was out of character for his son. He also disclosed that after the killings, he discovered a diary written by his son that showed he was having problems.

"After reading the diary, I would have thought it was written by someone who was extremely disturbed at the time," Michael Benoit said.

He did not elaborate, but did say a friend told him that prior to the murder-suicide, Chris Benoit had been wearing a rosary, which he said was also out of character.

"I think it's the extreme that is in the wrestling industry today," he told reporters. "The human skull is not built to get hit by a chair or something."

The father said he has not discussed with his lawyer whether to take any legal action against the WWE or anyone else in the case.

The lawyer, Cary Ichter, said he will consider later what steps to take in the "legal arena."

Nowinski said concussions can happen in pro wrestling even though many of the moves are staged.

"I got four concussions in three years as a professional wrestler," said Nowinski, who works for the WWE on its initiative to encourage young people to vote. "A lot of concussions happen from mistakes."

Prosecutors have said Benoit, 40, strangled his wife with a cord, and used a choke hold to strangle his seven-year-old son. He then placed Bibles next to the bodies and hanged himself on a piece of exercise equipment the weekend of June 22.

Authorities have said Benoit's personal doctor, Phil Astin, prescribed a 10-month supply of anabolic steroids to Benoit every three to four weeks between May 2006 and May 2007.

Astin has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of improperly prescribing painkillers and other drugs to two patients other than Benoit.

I think this is gonna cause repercussions in pro football.

It's well known that many of those guys suffer a lot of concussions, and the resulting behavioral problems are being discovered and discussed.

It's been an issue in pro football for about a year, this will likely accelerate the attention given to it.

seems like the brain damage caused a lot of problems. from demantia and depression.

I take back the nasty things i said about him. The WWE should have been having them talk to counselers if he exhibited such behavior.

such a sad story.

As someone posted i wonder if the NFL and WWE ,well any sport that have concussions on regulare bases, will do anything about it

http://www.wsbtv.com/news/14109745/detail.html

ATLANTA -- Channel 2 Action News has learned exclusive details of the entries in wrestler Chris Benoit's diary.

His father's attorney believes the wrestler's writings show signs of dementia and depression years before Benoit killed his wife, child and himself.

The photocopied first page of the diary is inscribed, 'To Christopher from Nancy,' with the date November 25, 2005.

All the handwritten entries are addressed to Eddie Guerrero, a close wrestling friend of Benoit's, who died in 2005 of an enlarged heart.

"He was upset, very upset, about Eddie's death. He says in a number of places how much he loved Eddie and what dear friends they were. He also says at one point that, 'I will be with you soon,' so it appears as though he was having some thoughts about his own mortality," said Carry Ichter, Benoit's father's attorney.

The entries also speak of Benoit's love and admiration for his wife, Nancy, and son, Daniel -- both of whom he killed in the weekend of June 22.

He spoke of the exhaustion, drudgery and loneliness of the road, but did not describe abusing drugs.

"It's plain that he was depressed. It's plain that he was beginning to exhibit some of the signs of the dementia that's associated with the brain injuries he sustained because he talks in there about not being able to remember things," said Ichter. "Chris, at the end had become intensely paranoid, to the point that he would not take the same route to the airport on a consistent basis, to the point that he would not allow the family outside of the house."

The diary was found in the trash outside Benoit's Fayetteville home shortly after the deaths.

Ichter, who has known Benoit for years, is now representing his father in the legal process which will decide who is heir to Benoit's multi-million dollar estate -- his children from a prior marriage or the family of his wife, Nancy. They left no will.

Did you read the article? This has nothing to do with this thread.

Well he was Benoit's doctor

He was prescribing drugs to Benoit.

He is in jail for prescribing drugs to patient.

That is enough of a link for me to post the story.

1. Who cares if some doctor got sent to jail for prescribing drugs to people illegally? Not post-worthy; hardly news-worthy. This is similar to if you were to post "Heath Ledger's former hairdresser found guilty of aggravated assault!" Who cares?

2. It's entirely a coincidence that he happened to be Chris Benoit's doctor and posting a link in this thread is misleading because it makes it seem (at first) like the drugs actually led to the murders.

Number1's post is definitely valid. Why don't you (AstroManLuca and Nik) read the article?

I'm here to argue about the validity of bumping this thread with relevant new information.
