I agree that a lot of main-stream mindless hip-hop is bad, but I find this same thing with all genres. Grow up. You need to listen to the right rap to appreciate it, again just like all music. Maybe your not cut out for it, that's ok. There are so many things to hate about all music if your that shallow and uninsightful to just listen.

That's such BS. Why is it automatically racism if someone is critical of a rapper? The race card is *way* overplayed. The truth is a lot of people don't like rap because of the lyrical content. Just read some of the lyrics posted in this very thread. Much of rap is about gangs, drugs, killing, and treating women like crap. Don't get me wrong, I like some rap songs but it's because of the beat and not the lyrics.
As far as Biggie goes, it's no different than Tupac getting killed. I always remembered a pic of a shirtless ripped Tupac with a "Thug Life" tattoo across his stomach. The first thing I thought of when I saw it was, "Thug Life = Thug Death". Sorry, but when you live that kind of lifestyle and boast about it in your songs I don't think you deserve pity when the reality of it backfires on you.

I've never been called an openminded person, but I'm not so pigheaded as to deny talent if I don't agree with or can't relate to the message behind it - and many rap artists, including the late Christopher Wallace, are indeed very talented.
"Gangsta rap" is an excellent opportunity to learn about a culture vastly different from my own, one of poverty where you either sink or swim, and most of the swimming options are illegal and unethical. A talented artist makes the lesson much more fun.
But for most people here, the gist of it is that open racism is taboo, but hating rap is still OK.

As far as rap goes , it is defiling to society. It teaches youths contempt and disrespect. It also teaches them that they can get ahead by pursuing immoral behavior and trampling over or killing those they oppose.
The very manner in which he was killed is exemplary of what Rap promotes.

He sort of has a point, because 90-95% of rappers have rhymed about shooting or killing someone, directly or indirectly. (including nas, pac, big, jay, crooked i, ras kass, canibus, big l, raekwon, ghostface, tragedy khadafi, big pun, eminem, ice cube, immortal technique, jeru the damaja, and many many more).
In most cases, it shouldn't really be taken seriously because they are just making "studio threats", just to sound "tough". And most of their content isn't about killing, ex. Nas.

I am not listening to any. I have yet to find a rapper who doesn't fit into the above described category with at least some of his/her work. I realize a lot of it is promotional , but the kids who listen to it don't.
How many times have you heard someone repeat something they heard in a movie or in a song as if it was fact? It happens all the time. The effect goes way beyond just believing Hollywood is History IMO.
I also don't watch , nor would I allow my kids to watch such programs as, "the simpsons" or "MadTV" for the same reason.
That goes without saying for many of the video games out there (ie. GTA).
The artist or designer may make the money off it , but the kids live it.
Debate that if you want something of value to talk about.

Yea those drug rappers, damn them. Hmmm.....Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones was a Heroin addict. Ron Wood of those same Stones was an alcoholic and cocaine addict.
Roger Barret, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd was mentally disturbed, probably from LSD.
And Oasis, are you kidding me. That band was riddled with drinking and drug using by all the members of the band. Even to the point they would have shows canceled.
Hmmm sounds like you should have praised some country singers, because any of those bands could be a poster child for druggy bands. Hell I can't count how many times Mick Jagger has been suspected of being in rehab.

And look at the carnage of the Rock cemetary. What kind of example did they set? Morrison killed himself. Elvis died on the toilet like a crack house person. Look at Manson, wow he's a person to look up to. Jerry Garcia did enough drugs to get everyone high in South Central for a month. Janis Joplin dead of drug overdose. Keith Moon dead, drug overdose. Kurt Cobain........was he murdered like Biggie or Tupac, or just another drug dead rock star. I could go on and on. For every bad rapper I can easily find two even more trashy examples of rock stars. Point is there is good and bad in every musical circle.
