And I'm no rap hater.

ok now please give us the top 5 of musical ability.

here's his top 5: 50, yayo, young jeezy, chingy, and lil flip

Are you guys actually trying to make a case for Biggie as one of the best rappers? BWAHAHAHAHAHAH

please tell us your top 5 then we can determine if your opinion is worth while.

Asking for the top 5 rappers in terms of musical ability is like asking who has the best smelling fecal output.

in anycase, theres still an answer for both of those...

Fair enough. Can I vote for mine?

vote for what? who you think are the top 5 rappers and who you think have the top 5 best smelling fecal output?

I was actually referring to the latter, but come to think of it, I think I can be competitive at both.

Funny how when other genres of music have threads about them, people who dislike that genre typically stay out and don't comment.

Then in every single rap thread that comes up on ATOT (yes, every single one), the people who like those other genres always come in and have to bash rap.

Shows a lot about the people who like those other genres.

Biggie = my favorite rapper of all time. R.I.P.

Check out the painting of him I have in this picture here.

If rap threads get bashed by every other music group, then maybe it's not the rest of the music groups that have the problem.

its a people not a music problem.

OK, let's make it: If rap is the only music so openly bashed by people, then maybe it's not the rest of us who have the problem.

Rap is bashed the most because people hate it the most.

why cant it be that rap haters happen to just be more obnoxious.

I find the double standard interesting.

Thanks for reiterating my thoughts in a very easy to understand straight forward example :)

How many country singers are out there whacking each other?

None.

you're just proving the point he made, jerkoff

How do you figure, fvckstick?

you feeling the need to stick your nose in and make a negative comment(s) in every rap thread you can get your hands on.....case in point your previous points in this thread. Its painfully obvious.

Cry me a river. This is an opinion board jackass. Gee, I wonder if I can find a thread where each of you (especially Gigapet, purbeast0, and Inspector Jihad - in that order) jumped in to offer a negative opinion on who/what was being discussed.

Hypocritical asshats FTW!

Good luck finding a thread about a person who was famous and known as the best at what he did, and was involved in something that I dislike and me talking crap about that person and whatever he was involved with!

lemme know when you find it, Thanks!

I can think of quite a few better reasons to remember March 9th than the murder of a pop/hip-hop artist.

Fortunately, Wiki does it so I don't have to:

9 March

Yes, March 9 2004 is a day that will live in infamy...
2004 - A terrorist attack on a restaurant in Istanbul kills one and injures 5.

Just because you don't like rap doesn't mean you have to come into threads like this and be an idiot. Most people have enough respect not to trounce on threads commemorating the death of other important people, so why bash biggie? Because he's black? Because you don't like rap? Honestly, grow up.

1) Yes, the death of a single American rapper is *much* more significant than the death and dismemberment of several foreigners due to a terrorist attack. Nice to know that you have your priorites all lined up.

2) Who said I don't like rap? In fact, my first post mentioned both pop and hip-hop. You can include jazz, country and western, polka, and disco to that list if you'd like.

3) Important people? Are you 14? Are you an inspiring rapper? Were you the guys relatives? I don't understand how you can claim that he's important because you say so, but the opinions of others that declare him not to be important are intolerable for some reason. Double standard much?

4) Racism? Are you honestly attributing my post to racism? ROFL!

5) Grow up? Nice. I'm changing my guess from 14 to 12.

In all seriousness, you're probably right... but the fact of the matter is that rap really hasn't earned much respect outside of its own followers. The possible reasons for that is what I find interesting...

For instance, country music makes my ears bleed. But I have a respect for most of the artists' musicianship. More importantly, while the lyrics are often the same old "my dog is dead" crap, it's not downright offensive and disturbing on a primal level.

I hate saying RIP, especially with Biggie and Tupac because they are the most dickroden rap artists ever and even retards who dont know what real hip hop is will say "RIP Biggie".
If you say RIP to Biggie, why dont you say RIP to every other person that died this day, the next day, etc.

As for some rappers that are >> Biggie :

Nas
Rakim
Canibus
Common
GZA
Kool G Rap
Killah Priest
Ras Kass
Pharoahe Monche
Masta Ace
Black Thought
Mos Def
Talib Kweli

For Hip Hop newbs, yes.

But when you really dig deep down, you will discover there are tons of rappers better than Biggie. See my list above.

Are you comparing "Biggie" to Bob Dylan?

How about this, someone makes a thread about how sad it is that this is the anniversay of when Billy Ray Cyrus lost his mullet. I'd be one of the first to jump in and decry that thread as well.

Happy?

So, rap music really speaks to you huh? You can relate to the inner city struggle of the black man?

Nothing more lame than some white dude or an asian dude listening to rap music. You're really gangsta yo.

BS. You obviously have a problem with the commercial aspect attributed to a star like Biggie. I agree you've listed a bunch of talented rap artists, no doubt. I'd be willing to bet that few of the artists you listed would share your view of Biggie appealing only to "hip-hop newbs".

If you were really a rap fan, you would recognize Biggie for the talent he had regardless of the commercialism of his music.

I dont look at it as a ranking, but i would say that biggie is one of the best ones. His style and flow are top-notch and his story telling ability is second only to nas.
