Last night, I put 6+ hours on it, without feeling anything in my wrist. (Which is usually sore with other mice.)

This is one of the best investments I've ever made in gaming.
 
I love the way the mouse can be customized. It'll be a nice upgrade when I can afford it. Though I do love my MX518, I just want something different when I eventually upgrade it.
 
I'll chime in as another R.A.T. 7 owner. Lately it's been getting an extensive workout in Starcraft 2.

The mouse is a thing of beauty. I played with all the adjustments for a couple hours til I got it just right when it first arrived. I went back and forth on the pinky rests til finally settling with the large one that prevents any fingers from touching the mouse pad because I have big hands. It was strange at first til I repositioned the pinky and ring finger to better rest on it.

Like you i collect mice like women collect shoes so dropping 100 bones on a mouse sight unseen wasn't too abnormal for me, but I can understand why many people would be skeptical.

If the thought of the customization appeals to you at all I would recommend it. Besides that factor (which is the main appeal of this mouse), it is a great mouse on the more basic level too (buttons and tracking).
 
How big is it? Can you set it up for fingertip mousing? I like that my G9 h as the slim grip that makes it very small and perfect for fingertips, while big mice like the Sidewinder force you to palm the mouse.
 
I would also like to know how big it is. Even looking at the smallest adjustment settings, it still looks pretty big.

Can you remap that red dpi button to do whatever you want? Afaik, it's not adjustable.

And what's the difference between this and the rat 5?
 
It's a medium sized mouse, and can then be adjusted to be slightly smaller or larger. It's definitely not sidewinder size where your entire palm rests on it (unless you have very small hands I guess).

You cannot remap the red sniper button unfortunately.

The rat 5 doesn't have swappable palm and pinky rests (rat 7 has 3 of each) and you also cannot adjust the tilt of the thumb rest on the rat 5. The only adjustable things are being able to move the palm rest and thumb rests forward or backward to change the length. Also the rat 5 is max 4000dpi vs. max 5600dpi on rat 7.

I have the RAT7 and the G9. With adjustments, I made my RAT7 exactly the same size as my Logitech.

Gah, Amazon says "ships in 1 to 2 months" for the RAT 7. Any other reputable stores carrying these? I want to give one a shot.
 
I'm using a G500 now. I prefer the size over my previous G9, but the G9 felt a lot more solid. The G500 isn't flimsy (and again, I LOVE the size / comfort), but it feels like it's literally full of empty space and air in comparison.

The twin-eye sensor is the same one used in various new Razer mice, right? I heard a lot of complaints about those. It sounds like the problem mostly occurs when the mouse is lifted completely off the surface, and luckily for me, I'm a high sensitivity user, so I never lift the mouse. Literally, one inch or less of mouse movement goes all the way across my screen.

I might still give it a shot, since everyone seems to rave about the build quality. The price is holding me back, though, and I'm not happy that some features (sniper button, IIRC) don't work with out the software installed.
 
Yeah, the price just a little steep. I'd like to see it around $80 but don't expect that anytime soon, esp. with the stocking status.

My problem with the G500 was that they moved the sensor back toward the middle. More ergonomically sound so you don't twist your wrist as much, but I always ended up a bit short when aiming to the side. I loved the free/notch scroll wheel and the button placement. I know what you mean about the strange empty feeling...like they used thinner plastic or something.
