R-290X and R-290 Non ref cooling are in stock

I agree they wear suppose to be a a value card that would beat the titan at launch they kinda dropped the ball in a few ways.
I was looking forward to theses cards at launch but do to the price I .don't see what the draw will be for them other that the onboard audio maybe.
 
Ouch, 780ti is a better deal at that price. Nice to see these cards rolling out, wish it would have been a month and a half ago, I would have bought in.
 
It does suck. But the 290 isn't that bad of a deal. Its still faster than a 780 for a bit more.

Asus MSRP for 290X DCU2 is $570. I bet that windforce with normal price will be the same when this coin crazy stop.
 
All the people saying AMD/ATi selling everything they can produce of their cards 7950 and over is a bad thing for AMD/ATi are delusional.

Bad for consumers, yes.

Bad for AMD/ATi? Hell no.

Once demand no longer outstrips supply at the inflated prices, the prices will go down.

AMD aren't making any extra money from it though, but it is potentially harming customer perception because there's a massive markup over retail price for cards.

Pretty much all going to be retailers gouging on the prices, which doesn't do anything for AMD.

I was looking at a Windforce 290 and then realised it would be the same price as a 780 (in the UK), but from the benchmarks it kills the 780 at 4k, so there's no real competition as soon as Dell get their stuff together and release their 28" 4k.

Yes, for now. Once this mining fad ends, AMD will be damaged for m\not being able to price competitively for years, which will hut their mindshare. Meanwhile, NVidia will be able to keep raising prices as high as they like. I fully expect an $800-1000 GTX 880 and a $1500 Titan 2, with a $1200 GTX 880 Ti down the road.

Mining bubble isn't going to last years.

AMD is NOT being damaged by selling all stock of high end SKUs as soon as they can make them. Because the very fact that the prices are so high means there are plenty of people out there buying them at that price.
 
No gamer will ever buy one of these over an nvidia card. Newegg and every other retailer have gone way too far with jacking up their prices.
 
I guess I'm going to use the 10% Masterpass discount and pick up one of the Gigabyte 290's. If prices fall in the near future I'll get the 2nd one I've been wanting for Crossfire. These prices suck ***.

NVidia raised prices no matter what AMD was doing, and people were still willing to pay it. Blame THOSE people. According to some people, nVidia (rightfully) commands a premium. Those are the same type of people that would pay $1k+ for single video cards. If they would stop buying, nVidia would have to lower prices.
 
I didn't like paying $270 for my 280x although that is a great price all things considered. High end card prices are off the charts insane right now. But there are still good deals for those in the $300 price bracket if you can live without that last 20 percent of performance.
I also thought mining was tapering off? I thought I'd read prices had tanked? Why are people still buying cards for this?

Crypto prices are already bouncing back up and well on the road to recovery. In addition, gamers would still like to get their x-mas fix.
 
In Sweden, these inflated prices do not exist for the 290/X cards. But the mining bubble has reached us too, all the tech forums are saturated with topics on the issue, FAQs, how to get started etc.

I think it is mostly a Norh American thing. Still sucks for those affected.

OT: still waiting for non-X version of 290 with DCII cooler. Will be beastly for insanely cheap price compared to the green team's offering.

However the [mistake] with the delay of these cards is just amateurish and frankly a sign of a lack of discipline on the part of AMD.

you whippersnappers should go back to the vcg archives when the 8800gt came out. you might even learn something about the shipping process the AIBs use. hint: big boat crossing ocean slower than initial shipment by airplane.

dont get me started about custom cooler 8800gt.

oh and guess how high prices on the 8800gt went.
 
I'm tempted to just get a 780 at this point and I haven't purchased an Nvidia card in at least a decade. (Nothing in particular against Nvidia, I'm just cheap). AMD is taking advantage of the windfall, but what happens when gamers decide to jump ship since they won't provide the supply necessary to stop their resellers from gouging? If I'm going to pay similar/higher prices then I may as well go with Nvidia since it's always seemed to play better with Photoshop and 3DS Max.

Anyone who buys cards at those prices is a damn fool.
 
I feel like once all these custom cards are available in January and the profitability of mining litecoins continues to fall we'll see these prices start to return to normal. I hate seeing people order cards $150-200 above MSRP - it really just reinforces what newegg and other retailers are doing and delays the much needed price drops. But oh well - that's supply and demand for you 😛
