I don't have a favorite quote I commit to memory, and always think of. There's numerous that are pretty good, and I especially like for a period of time. One is in my sig.

I take that back. I guess my favorite quote is a Japanese proverb, "A used doorstep doesn't rot". Works literally, and it works figuratively, and many of my actions are guided by that saying.

One of my new favourites. "A paranoid man is a man who knows a little about what's going on." By Naked Lunch author William S. Boroughs.

I like many quotes and can't pick one. But here is one that's a favorite from Robert Kennedy, putting economics in some perspective about how short-sighted it is:

"Too much and too long, we seem to have surrendered community excellence and community values in the mere accumulation of material things. Our gross national product ... if we should judge America by that - counts air pollution and cigarette advertising, and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage. It counts special locks for our doors and the jails for those who break them. It counts the destruction of our redwoods and the loss of our natural wonder in chaotic sprawl. It counts napalm and the cost of a nuclear warhead, and armored cars for police who fight riots in our streets. It counts Whitman's rifle and Speck's knife, and the television programs which glorify violence in order to sell toys to our children.

"Yet the gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages; the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our wit nor our courage; neither our wisdom nor our learning; neither our compassion nor our devotion to our country; it measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile. And it tells us everything about America except why we are proud that we are Americans."

Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will allow it to pass over and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

"the only regrets we have in life are the risks we didn't take"

no clue who said it but i really like it and kind of live by it especially when i go on vacation. that is part of the reason when i go on vacation i try to save like double what i realistically think i will spend, just in case there i something ridiculous that i want to do there since i have no clue when else i will be there in my lifetime. i always splurge on vacations.

No one remembers who came in second,
and when you're fighting for your life,
coming in second means coming in dead."

"I feel bad for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they'll feel all day." - Frank Sinatra, Lyndon B. Johnson, et. al.

Cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens. They are the most vigorous, the most independant, the most virtuous, and they are tied to their country and wedded to it’s liberty and interests by the most lasting bands - Thomas Jefferson
