“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.” - Leonardo Da Vinci

Another Kennedy quote, John for this one:

The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie, deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.

John F. Kennedy

"The basic difference between an ordinary man and a warrior is
that a warrior takes everything as a challenge, while an ordinary
man takes everything as a blessing or as a curse."

Don Juan by Carlos Casteneda

"banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies" Thomas Jefferson

"The wisest men follow their own direction" Euripides

You can't polish a turd.

and

Ralph Waldo Emerson: Every action is measured by the depth of the sentiment from which it proceeds.

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects".

Time Enough for Love - R.A. Heinlein

"the only regrets we have in life are the risks we didn't take"

no clue who said it but i really like it and kind of live by it especially when i go on vacation. that is part of the reason when i go on vacation i try to save like double what i realistically think i will spend, just in case there i something ridiculous that i want to do there since i have no clue when else i will be there in my lifetime. i always splurge on vacations.

very interesting quote, I feel like i am going to adopt this a my motto in life

'For myself,' said Faramir, 'I would see the White Tree in flower again in the courts of the kings, and the Silver Crown return, and Minas Tirith in peace: Minas Anor again as of old, full of light, high and fair, beautiful as a queen among other queens: not a mistress of many slaves, nay, not even a kind mistress of willing slaves. War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend: the city of the Men of Númenor; and I would have her loved for her memory, her ancientry, her beauty, and her present wisdom. Not feared, save as men may fear the dignity of a man, old and wise.'

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21)

Got an example of something that doesn't fit that quote?

"I hate hatred" (I believe that was Mark Twain or George Bernard Shaw, not very sure).

Lots of great quotes I like, and udgnim has already listed one that I live by, and also re-tell often in my circle
Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.

Eleanor Roosevelt

Others I like to quote often -

Gandhi : "Be the change you want to see in the world"

and
Elmer G Letterman : "A man may fall many times but he won't be a failure until he says someone pushed him."

"There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch." - Austin Powers

"Potentially, a government is the most dangerous threat to man's rights: it holds a legal monopoly on the use of physical force against legally disarmed victims." - Ayn Rand

"I have accepted a seat in the House of Representatives, and thereby have consented to my own ruin, to your ruin, and to the ruin of our children. I give you this warning that you may prepare your mind for your fate." - John Adams

I like all the Heinlein ones!

"You and you alone are responsible for the direction and quality of your life" - Robert Pickard
