No. 45k is because he work. If he didn't, he would have to add manager salary. 45k is his salary. 40k monthly sale is extremely high figure. Most stores do far less.

I would never buy a franchise. This story is common in the franchise world.

A footlong at Subway will cost you $5+ unless you get one of the cheap ones like a veggie or meatball. And it's smaller than a Quiznos large. And the amount of meat they put on a Quiznos sub is insane. I've actually asked them to put LESS meat on my sandwich, something I'd never have to do at Subway.

What a lot of y'all fail to understand is that your profit margin in any decent restaurant is about 10% of your gross. In this case, if you take out that SBA loan repayment - you're damn near close to 10%.

The industry as a whole operates on about a 10% margin. This articles is just stating the obvious.

Oh, and FWIW. That 10% you make is also based on working half a day all year long.

You can work the first 12 or the second 12

Quiznos doesn't put that much meat on a sandwich, not at least for the price. I use to eat there, but I discovered 2 places that kill them, both for value and selection.

Ralphs is only in So Cal I think? Vons might be Safeways in other parts of the country. Vons has about 10 types of bread, how many does Quiznos have? 2 at the one by me. Vons has ANY Deli meat they sell, $4.99 for a small sandwich that easily has more meat then anything Quiznos offers, with the exception of that new Beef Brisket sub, that cost uhhh 11 bucks? Vons has everything from regular subs, to Pot Roast ones, to Focotta(sp?) to Panini's. The breakfast Panani with bacon and cheese and eggs is so delicious.

Ralphs subs are even bigger then Vons, and they have an insane about of bread choices. Also again any meat the deli offers. After eating from either supermarket, I don't think I could ever go to a Subway/Quiznos/Togo's every again.

I dare you to find me a 12" sub at subway for $3.75 (without the use of any coupons, since those can be had for both companies). Anyways, a large sub at Quiznos will fill you up a hell of a lot more than the large sandwich from Subway.

I always get a BLT at both places. Subway puts 8 strips of bacon on a 12" sandwich. Quiznos uses small strips and covers both pieces of bread with bacon, then throws on some chopped up bacon on top of that. There is easily twice as much bacon on a Quiznos sandwich as there is on a Subway sandwich.

I could pay an extra $2 for double meat at Subway, but then I'm paying as much as I would at Quiznos.

Too much work too much cost of capital too little profit IMO.. But the nice thing is when doors open you're pretty much guarnteed traffic and you can parlay into more stores once you've proven yourself eventually making you a very good living. 5-6 making $50K means 250K right? Quizinos concept is pretty slick but I think their prices are a bit high as well.

First food cost is at 29%. That is way way too high for fast food.
When you add in the other components of food costs(spoilage, comp food, coupons(discount), food waste), the TOTAL is 32%.
You don't make money in fast food if your total food cost is 32%.

Just to compare, McDonalds TOTAL food cost is around 23%-25% and 25% is on the high side.
With these subs franchise, food should be much lower.
For example, everything is made to order right in front of you and there is much less chance to waste food and replacing wrong orders, etc....

I'm not saying those numbers are wrong but if they are indeed correct, then Quiznos do not know how to run their business.

Reading the link in the OP, it sounds as though Quizno's has a wholly-owned food distributor from where franchisees must buy their supplies, and the high Quizno's food cost actually works very well...for Quizno's. Not for the franchisees. They could be running their business very well at the cost of those who own the franchises.

Did'nt you read how the franchisor is ripping off the franchisee in the comments?

" We have to sell Aquafina water purchased through pepsi for $10.00 a case. When the local grocery store sells it for $4.99."

Frankly this is the main reason I'd never open a franchise. You're at the mercy of whatever the franchisor decides to charge for your supplies and they are double dipping well past your royalty fees obviously. A case of that water at Costco is $3.99


You make your money in business buying not selling. If you can't even control the buying process and are relegated to one supplier you aint gonna get rich...fighting for scraps IMO.

Considering straight food cost for McDonalds is ~22%(even factoring in $1 menu stuff).
If you take an average quick service restaurant grossing $1mil/yr...each 1% represent $10K, thats alot of money.

I made a point that if Quiznos base food cost is indeed 29%, then they don't know how to profit in the quick service industry

What I did say is that McDonalds base food cost(which is around 22%) so thats a good 7% higher.
No wonder Quiznos can't make any money.
