At USARPC Basic Sentry Dog School, we were told that baths were bad for our German Shepherd Dogs.

Shampoo can strip the oils out of a dogs outer coat. These oils help protect the dog as well as helping to keep them dry in the rain.

My experience is that a daily brushing works best ... Though, I understand that some dogs, therapy dogs for example, are given baths before their hospital visits.

If you have the time, you might want to pick up a good brush and try regular brushing rather than bathing.

Best of luck,

The army must have some stinky dogs, then.

If a dog's going to live in my house, then she's is going to get a bath when she needs it. I don't want my house to smell like dog.

Oh, my dog does not like the bath process at all. It's after the bath the crack kicks in. He runs around the house, rolls all over the floor, and will not sit still for more than two seconds.

Mine's like that too. Then he'll run straight to the bedroom and get up and roll around in the bed until it's totally ruined.

my parents' golden retreiver just loves water.

when my mom is gardening during the summertime, he inevitably will find a way to run through the hose spray. he won't go in the pool, but that look a lot of training.

My dogs hate getting baths. Then again I usually just hit them with a garden hose once or twice a year. Kinda hard to bathe an uncooperative 90lb german shepherd in the family bathtub. They spend the whole time trying to attack the nozzle on the hose.

One of the good things about owning a lab, they all love water.

One of the bad things about owning a lab, a dog with boundless energy that loves getting wet can inflict even more damage than a dry dog.

my dog will stand still and let me give her a bath but she spends the whole time looking at me like she doesnt know what she did wrong. :(
even though she is a lab, she doesn't seem to enjoy being in water that much.

after the bath, she does run around like she has gone insane like OP's dog.

my 2 year old dane is great - she just sits there or lies down until it's over.

The puppy - different story. Bathed them both this weekend. I think I had more water on me than the puppy did by the time I was done washing him. The hose was something to be attacked and I was something to wipe/shake water onto.

"A dog must be groomed daily the year round. Grooming includes inspection and care of ears, nails, nose, teeth, and the anal glands. A good brushing keeps a dog clean and maintains his coat and skin in a heathly condition. If his coat is brushed properly each day, itis seldom necessary to bathe him. A dog must be kept free of fleas, lice, and ticks. A dog's appearance denotes his state of health as well as the care he receives and reflects directly on his handler."

Groom your dog properly and it won't stink.

My cock is crack for your mom.

You just got off vacation yesterday and yet you felt compelled to come into a thread that has nothing to do with you and start up with this baiting crap?

Back in the box.
