Agreed. There is only so much shit I'm willing to take before I say fuck you. I was laid off in May from a job 10 miles from my home and after collecting unemployment for a few months I was offered a job in August that is 30 miles from my home and I took it because they offered me $10k more than I was making before...which probably just means I was underpaid actually. Fuck my life...

A little humility is always a good thing in general but this approval of cowering to employers will lead us nowhere except to misery.

Unacceptable. I'd get a place to live during the week, or look for another job.

A guy I worked with lived with his parents and had a 2.5-3 hour commute each day. He would say even with gas at $4+ per gallon, it was still cheaper than an apartment ( true). He lived on a farm and said he needed to help his dad with chores. Okay too. He did it for 1.5 years and still does AFAIK.

But even both those things, I'd say no fucking way. I'd gladly pay much more to avoid the commute. And with a 10 hour workday + 2.5 hr commute, I don't know how my chores he could really do. I'd go home on weekends if needed for chores, but no fucking way I'd do that commute for more than temporary.

With as many people unemployed I think all of us employed should be extremely grateful.

The level of unemployment can be directly linked to education level or specialized skill level (still falls under the general heading of education).

Unemployment rates for the uneducated skyrocket during this type of current job market condition, while the unemployment rates for the educated rise only slightly.

Individuals who have plenty to offer to the job market shouldn't feel overly grateful for their jobs.

About 90 KM or about 56 miles each way. Unfortunately not much of it is highway.

Kind of, the morning commute shouldn't be too bad. I bet I can get there in an hour at that time in the morning (5AM) but if I do that long enough I'll end up with a pile of speeding tickets. I wouldn't be taking this so well if I didn't think I could get out of it in a couple of months. I'm just trying to help my boss through a fairly tough time staffing wise, and he is the type that will appreciate it later on.

Yeah... it's even more annoying than the whole "I just got myself a McMansion and an Acura TL with my bonus money" mentality that ATOT had four years ago.

Why aren't people smart enough to save up during the good times, so they don't have to let their employer screw them over during the bad times?

Because money is so fun to spend. Plus people who do have savings don't actually like to spend that savings unless absolutely necessary.

People always seem to focus on the 10% unemployment rate, and forget about the 90% of people who are employed. Seriously... it's not THAT bad out there! There ARE jobs to be had, you just need to be willing to move to find them.

Besides, I'll bet that most of the people who post here work in IT. Those skills are still in demand. Hell... I still get calls from headhunters, even in the middle of this "horrible" recession. Get a job, ya bums!
