quick ? about ground beef...

is it ok to eat? it was purchased sunday, and has a 'sell-by date' of 4/26/05 (today..) but it has turned kind of brown on the outside... but is still red on the inside.. and it smells okay I guess

I normally don't cook meat that much... since this was a little brown i did it well done

Unless the meat turns a truly unusual color (purple is a good one) then the meat is fine to eat. Hell, back in the day the brits used to let things sit out for a few days to "get some flavor".

Now while it may be fine to eat, it may not taste that good. If you can, scrape it. Otherwise I recommend putting it in stew and boiling the f%$#er for a few hours.

Damn it. Grr! I want sirloin but I only have like 7lbs of chicken and stir-fry veggies.

of course, he can't put a dish in the dishwasher, do any cleaning, or remember to lock doors or turn off the tv. lol

If the meat is bad, you can smell it. There is no question about it when you smell bad meat.

As long as it smells fine, it is safe to eat.
