How long did you know/were you with your significant other before you got engaged?
How long were you engaged before you got married?

edit: told my friend who I was hanging out with the night I met my future wife that "she's the one, I know it."
He told me wife years later, right before Valentine's day that I had said that. Like a moron, I pointed out that I had been drinking the night we met.

Met end of February.
1st date March.
Engaged April.
May we went home from college for the summer - him to Oklahoma, me to Alabama.
July we saw each other for Fourth weekend.
Aug 31 married.
Went home after 1st meeting and told boyfriend of two years that I couldn't see him any more (despite the two year thing it wasn't a deep relationship) because I knew in my heart that I would marry the new guy.
Still married and very happy after many, many years. He still tells me every day how beautiful I am (although he does have an eye exam scheduled soon), and I know that he's still the best looking guy out there (well, except maybe for Tom Cruise.)
Some things I think are keys to longevity - ability to compromise, agreement on major issues (spending, child-rearing, long-term goals, etc.), unified front always for the children, never make major decisions unilaterally.

Do you realize how short Tom Cruise is?
Yes, but in those fantasies we aren't standing!
BTW - hubby is 6' 3" and I love that.
