this depends on lots of things. You do seem to think you want a new sub badly since you mentioned it twice

read this

Damnit. Meant receiver. :D Thanks, I'll read up on that. It wouldn't cause damage though would it (if I set them at around 60 let's say)?

Edit: damn, appears it could I guess. I get the loudness thing but doesn't crossover just affect when the sub kicks in? How's that related to power draw? Wouldn't that just make the sub kick in less?

Don't set it to 60. The mains might be able to produce 60, but definitely not your surrounds. And your amp is not exactly great so don't make it work harder.

Receiver should be your next upgrade. Really should not have gotten that HTIB.

1% Total Harmonic Distortion is horrendous.

Just to give you an idea, my amp's THD is 0.05% at 8ohm 165wx5 all channels driven.

Deal. Damnit. You think audio quality would improve or no?

Also, let's say I asked you guys to recommend a receiver...would we be talking about many hundred of dollars for a decent one or just a few hundred?

and how exactly am I able to tell you that from this end of the intertubes?

Audio is analogue. Everything in the room can affect the sound.

There are many receivers in different price points. It's a matter of identifying what you can afford and then figure out which suits your needs.

I don't mind actually. It is better that you ask before you spend your cash.

Alright, so just to make sure...lets say i have the side with the line going down it, i designate that WHOLE STRAND 'black.' So i put the black connector on each side of that strand and each one of those goes in the black terminal, right?

Yep. as long as a wire goes from black on the receiver to black on the speaker and same for red... you're golden.

Also, I never realized how awesome they are, but tagging your cables at the receiver end really helped out last night. I bought my AVR-1910 from Crutchfield and they gave me labels for free. It's much nicer than picking up a wire and guessing which surround speaker it goes to. :p Of course, you can just get some masking tape and a sharpie and write "SR" and "SL" on them pretty easily too.

I actually had an amusing situation last night when I set up my AVR-2112. I had everything hooked up correctly, and I was running the Audyssey setup (sounds like Space Invaders), and I noticed my right speaker wasn't making its "photon blast noises." I checked the cables and they were fine, but apparently the connector on the back of the AVR was a little loose. :\

Yeah, had a similar experience with audyssey. I about shit myself until I figured out the wire wasn't in deep enough.

So...cutting and inserting speaker wire into banana plugs has to be one of the most boring and finger pain inducing things ever. What a PITA. Gonna (roughly) set the speakers up soon yay!

You have bad plugs.

Closed plugs. Took forever, looks and works nice.

So I set everything up but I definitely need to use audyssey to re-calibrate, but can't because it's so fucking loud right now lol. Initial impressions are...well, it's not as cool as I thought it'd be, but I hear things I've never heard.

I set everything to 80 hz and kind of didn't like it as much. Everything sound better, but it seems like there's no bass. The LPG to LFE was 120hz and I set that to 80hz. Maybe that's why? Im thinking that audyssey needs to crank up the bass.

So...everything works great, but I have a LOT of measuring and set up shit to do. Arghhhhh.

running aduy is pretty painless should only take like 10 min

after its done make sure you go into the manual mode and set your fronts to SMALL and then check the xover settings

you can then check the levels, you may have to adjust the output on your sub (assuming it has a knob on it for that) and then rerun audy. sub should come in ~-5 IIRC but you can tweak it to whatever you want

It's easy to run it, sure, but not when there's people in the room over eating and watching tv. I'm just gonna kill them and the dogs. JK haha.

There's no small/large settings, just different hz adjustment for each set of speakers. The sub was -5db from a previous setup and I put it back to 80hz and raised the sub to -3db and it sounds much better!

Dialogue is soo much clearer. Neat hearing stuff that wasn't there!

I have to get used to this. It's definitely a LOT clearer and...hard to put my finger on it. Don't know how to put it in words.

Heh I guess so. It's not like an earth shattering difference but its definitely nicer. Gonna run audyssey in a few minutes. It is definitely more enjoyable. I look forward to re-watching and playing games on it though!

hha just wait till you get used to it and then go to friends house or something and have to use the built in tv speakers. Youll appreciate yours even more. or at least i do when i travel for work. Usually decent tv's but man the uadio just sucks to my ears. The only tv speakers that actually sound fine are on my parents old 40" sony bravia xbr lcd. For some reason those speakers sound good to me :)

Audyssey set my surrounds and rear surrounds to 150 hz and the front and centers to 40 hz. Should I change these values (to 80hz)? It also lowered my sub to -7db which seems low.
