1) Never buy a used turbo charged car (uncle sold used cars for years, he's always said this)

2) If the owner is under 25, don't buy it there's a good chance it's been involved in a race of some sort every day of it's life.

Eh. Worst case scenario: low mileage JDM import motor is well under $1000 and that's with more power than a stock WRX.

Your uncle is living in the past. Modern turbos are reliable and inexpensive.

i bet he beat the hell out of that car.
Why do you say that? The mods? That's actually mild modding for that car, about stage 2, and well within safe limits. There's actually a moderator on Nasioc who has run about that level of modding on an 02 WRX for 130k reliable miles.
Otherwise, from the pictures the car looks very clean and (except for the grillcraft IMO) very tasteful. Mileage is low too.

They can't outright void a warranty due to mods (Google for 'Magnussen Moss act' if you want to know more) but with it having power mods, most dealers would make it really difficult.

It may not matter anyway though since the 5year/60000mile powertrain warranty is all that's left and depending on when it was originally purchased, that could be up in a matter of months. I think the 02's were here as early as April of 2001? Memory a little hazy on that. At most you don't even have a year left unless he purchased a transferable extended warranty.

Make sure the tranny is in good shape. Subaru didn't put in the clutch delay valve until the 03 models, so aggresive launching and/or bad shifting can put a ton of stress on the gears.
