My company is still running 2000 because the TCP/IP stack in XP doesn't work with our hardware. I'm anticipating a major headache when 2000 gets to be unsuported.

Yes, XP Pro for several years here at least. We will not support Vista till maybe 2010. We can't even have Vista pc's installed on the WAN unless you fill out a 4 page document about how you're "testing" it.

Absolutely no plans in any forseable future. We have over 500 unique apps that are held together by ductape and bublegum as it is on XP. There's absolutely no way we'd be able to bring a lot of those over to vista.

Plus our biggest app that is published to over 10,000 users has failed to function properly in IE7.

I work for a large financial services company. We are still on XP and will stay there for quite some time. However, computers being purchased are fully Vista compliant.

nothing wrong with vista. industry are resistant to change. to migrate, companies have to be guaranteed that the commercial software theyre running is 99999999% certified , tested and proven, on visa

That's exactly what's keeping business from upgrading. I've been running Vista Business for almost a year now on my laptop and I've only had minor issues with it, all of which are resolved. I've only had the OS lock up such that it required a hard boot once.

I have a hard time believing there are performance issues... my laptop isn't crap, but it's nothing special. Core Duo T2400, 2 GB of memory, 80 GB 5400 RPM HDD, integrated graphics... and I use Aero and a few gadgets. My biggest complaint is no native DVD playback support in Vista Business.

If you went through an XP upgrade of thousands or 10s of thousands of computers you remember the pain. Oh, will you remember the pain.

With no compelling reason to upgrade businesses won't upgrade. There simply isn't any reason to do so. It's a manpower/cost issue.

I ask you this...

Why would any business want to upgrade to vista with the associated costs (manpower/expense, not the cost of the software)? Do nothing is ALWAYS an option in any sound business decision.

Exactly... resistance to change. The cost (money for licenses, hardware upgrades, manpower for installation, retraining for both end users and support staff) is far too high when compared with any potential benefits. It's not because there's anything wrong with Vista... there's just no reason a business needs Vista for anything besides development work for future software versions. The larger the company, the less sense it makes to upgrade to Vista. I wouldn't be surprised to see companies running XP skip Vista entirely and use the next MS desktop OS when it comes out and they decide they need to upgrade.
