Question for current and former waiters and waitresses

Have you ever spit or something else as bad (or worse) in a customer's food? Did you work with other waiters that did this? Share your stories!

I've worked in the food service industry for a good 6 years now and never have I violated a customer's food.

The extent of me messing with a person's food was giving them Diet when they wanted Regular, or not putting enough ice/lemon in their drinks. Oh, and letting the food get a little bit colder.

As pissed off as a customer had made me - I would never do that.

Me neither.

I think those kinds of actions say more about the food handler than it does about the patron.

And as bad as a patron could possibly be... I would never, ever lower myself to such behaviour.

I have so much more self respect that than.

Why would you even do that?
Did he give you a bad tip..... ohh wait you messed with his food BEFORE you got a tip.

Regulars that normally tipped 5%, or people that were just plain rude and I didn't mind losing the tip.

So you're saying that customers have to pay a fee (tip) not to have their food messed with?
Something is seriously wrong with you then or the place you worked for have no clue about basic work and business ethics. A retaurant is supposed to serve the food un-****** with to start with.

Not even going to bother.

Remember what a waiter's job is. To get food from point a and point b with adequate service. A tip is what's expected when someone goes above and beyond their duty. So if I'm not busting my ass for a table when I have other people that tip me well and respect me, that's perfectly acceptable. If another person's food has to wait because I'm doing something else for a table that appreciates me, that's their problem. If I'm still serving within the acceptable guidelines of service, I'm doing nothing wrong.

If you think too little ice is bad, or the food being cold is bad, please don't ever eat out again.

When I worked at Shoneys as a buss boy I wated the cook drop a steak on the floor (greasy nasty ass floor), pick it up throw it back on the gill, tell me to STFU. Wasnt one of them regular floors either. It was one of them with holes to trap crap and squishy from all of the grease build up on it. Not to mention what ever was on his shoes.
Anyway he grilled it for a few seconds and ploped it back onto the plate and out it went to be eaten.
YUMMMMMMMMMY

I was a waiter for a year and a half. No, I never violated someone's food. Thats just disgusting, and no matter how irritated or mad I was, I never did that because it's just foul and I wouldnt want the same done to me.

I worked as a cook in a few places over the last few years I was in highschool, never messed with any food. For the most part I made the best food I could, and on the few times I got customers who were just complete and utter aholes, I just gave them small portions that were poorly done, but not messed with.

When I worked at McDonald's though, we used to do some crazy stuff, nothing overly nasty, but we used to keep meat in the heaters for hours past when we should've.

According to frustrateduser, there's something seriously wrong with you or your establishment.

You know, even though you were probably still working within the boundaries of your job and what is considered proper service.

I was never a waiter, but I was a "cook" at a pizza chain back in highschool and accidently messed with someone's food. The garlic spray for the crust came in a can that was very simliar to stainless steel cleaner. I'm not 100% certain, but to this day I have a feeling that one night I may have mixed up the cans when making a pizza.

I worked for Disneyland Food services for 5 years, they were already getting raped on the prices and food quality. That was punishment enough.

If the place you work at think it's still considered proper service to serve small badly cooked meals there's not much to say really. It's just not a good place to eat to start with.

Yeah I must be brain damaged and probably got customer service and reputation all wrong. If the customer is an ass he's not going to be less than an ass because you do a piss poor job.
