If you found out that you have what was described as a slightly 'bulging' disc (it is at L4) - what does that mean for your long term fitness goals? Should you not go as heavy? Should you stop certain things?

How would it impact:
Weight lifting with a bar (Back Squats, deads, rows, cleans, push press, bench, etc).

Tabata intervals with plyometrics (burpees, air squats, mountain climbers, planks, pushups)

Kettlebells - swings - turkish get ups

Biking. . .

I know that any advice online is just that - kind thoughts. I just want to be as educated as possible when I go to my next appt so that I can ask the right questions.

Thanks

I'd talk to a sports doctor. No one here can make a recommendation without seeing you in person or at least your films.

Actually, many, many people have bulging discs without any symptoms or discomfort. They get by day by day just fine. The goal is to not let it get worse by controlling your form and making sure you have proper core strength. If it doesn't bother you and your form is good, you have little to worry about. That is, unless, you're symptomatic.

My L4 is is bulged...

What are your numbers?

I would work very hard on ab exercises but mate go see a sports Dr. Not a normal Dr will will know F0CK ALL ABOUT ATHLETIC PEOPLE.

Does your back cause you discomfort? Can you bend over to touch your toes/ the floor?

If you are talking about my weights (numbers).

I'm at body weight on squat (185) - Bench (140) - Dead (175). I do the 5x5 stronglifts. I'm new to it only been doing it about 3 months. I started with the bar.

The ab idea is one thing I've been working on. Lots of planks, L-Hangs, and leg raises.

I've done lots of yoga in the last year, so I can flat hand the floor. No 'pain' - but sometimes I feel sore. Sometimes I worry it isn't normal 'I just lifted weights sore'. No real trouble though.
