Thanks for all the input.

How did you go about it?

Also after SP2 there were a lot more updates, so checking the Windows Update site would be the next step, IMO.

I see the same punk hearted crowd is back bullying someone into compliance with their thought control.. LOL

Microsoft has made a big mistake going from SP1 to SP2 and anyone who has downgraded to it is making a serious security mistake and is very much at risk.

With SP2 you are way more vulnerable.. you are far less secure..

It is a tragedy that Microsoft is not willing to support end users who have not downgraded to its really BETA security hardware that is filled with holes and wide open to swallow the blue pill.

The responsible thing to do is remove SP 2 from your machine!!

Back at it, I see...

Just responding to the usual punk hearted suspects.. and.. Leopards don't have punk in their hearts!! 😀

and.. just because I have to use microsoft, does not mean I have to like it... and.. sp2 is a downgrade.. beta.. very untested.. piss poor service pack.. very irresponsible to go with it..

i suppose one con of SP2 is that MS limits the number of connections progras can make. this hampers performance for P2P and bit-torrent apps. but using apps like NLite, you can bypass that limit and create your own custiom install of Windows fully patched with SP2. and the full download of SP2 is more like 200MB+ so i hope you don't have dial-up. but SP2 is a mandatory update. it protects against many worms and makes the kernel of XP more secure. i suggest you create a fully patched windows CD and reinstall. never does trouble like that.

You still haven't made a single compelling argument as to why you might be right about it though.

i suppose one con of SP2 is that MS limits the number of connections progras can make.

But they don't. It's only a limit on half-open connections, the max connections a process can make hasn't changed at all. At the very worst it'll make your torrent startup slower, but that's it.

You don't have to use Microsoft, and you also don't have to whine incessantly about things that by all appearances you do not even moderately understand.

Ok, that does it! It's time we had The Talk 😛

Cheetahs have tear marks down the muzzle. Leopards don't. If you're referring to my avatar...?

Cheetahs are lightly built with long legs. Leopards are much burlier and stronger.

Cheetahs have round spots, Leopards have rosette spots. Cheetahs are pursuit specialists, Leopards are the tree artists.

Cheetahs' claws are exposed even when retracted (they do retract, contrary to popular belief, they just don't sheathe). Leopards' claws are sheathed when retracted.

Chicks dig cheetahs 🙂 They're not likely to hurt you (the cheetahs, I mean... you never know about the chicks 😕 ), but there is a risk that they'll mischevously steal your hat. Leopards are more likely to either kill you, or else tell you tall tales about the last fish they caught.

That is all 😀

Ok, maybe it isn't really all. Neither species goes around spreading FUD about Service Pack 2 or calls it "hardware" (???). Neither species posts on AnandTech Forums without first taking their meds and ensuring that they're sober. 😉

Get back on your medication. When you do and you are ready to explain these retarded statements, feel free to post.

then they must be crappy machines, and few and far between to have S/W break the H/W.

I got a new copy of XP Pro with SP1 onboard - reloaded the OS from within windows (had never done that before) and then loaded SP2 on top. All went smooth.

Already done the downloads too. I am using ZoneAlarm so I disabled the firewall within the OS.

By the way, I am using a Sempie 2800 oc'ed to 2.25 Ghz. Saw there were some issues with some pc's & SP2.

6 years isn't dated?

What do you mean 6 years isn't dated? Windows XP is going on 5 years old. But Windows XP SP2 is only two years old. Windows Server 2003 SP1 is only 1 year and four months old.

Windows 2K SP4 is only 3 years and 1.5 months old. But WIndows 2K SP4 doesn't conatin the kernel changes that tighten security that XP SP2 and 2003 SP1 contained. So it is getting to be dated.
