So I watched Food, INC. the other day and it is a great movie. I've always known our food is far from natural/healthy and watching the film has put me on a path to eating better. I switched over to organic yogurts and milk, and I'm making a trip out to a few farms this weekend that sell organic meat.

I have a question about some of the things shown in the movie, specifically the scene where they show a bunch of products that have corn based modifiers added to them, such as Hellman's mayo and Tropicana orange juice. I read the labels on both of these products which I use on a regular basis and didn't see anything corn based there, so what gives?

What did you guys think of the film?

I don't have an answer to your question - but I just wanted to say that I thought this was a great movie that was fair to all the parties involved. I also was laughing when they were interviewing the guy *while* he was slaughtering chickens. Same with the chickadees on the conveyor belt in the beginning.

My best foods mayo has corn starch in it. These large food corporations just want you to buy and eat their food without knowing where it came from or whats in it.

That was a good scene. I found it funny how the corporations sent a bunch of inspectors there to check for food contamination because they were being slaughtered in the "open air". Lulz. Then they tested the chickens for contaminents and the one from the supermarket has a shitload more than the organic one.

I find it interesting that people need a movie to show them their food isn't entirely "natural", whatever the hell that means. Honestly, do you actually care what food companies put in your food, or do you feel like you should care, hence the feigned incredulous attitude?

I won't lose any sleep over the food bought from my supermarket. During the late spring to fall timeframe, I'll gladly buy locally grown produce. Not because of some bullshit rational that the food is organic or healthier, but because locally grown produce tends to be more fresh which has a direct effect on it's taste.

You're spending too much time on the internet processing theories.

I'm not some guy that needs a movie to show me things, but I did learn a few new things from it. I've always known our meat here is complete shit, that everything is pretty much made out/fed corn.

I care 100 % of what is put into my food, and I don't even know why you would suggest I'm a person who feels they should care. If people like that exist they are more retarded than anyone. From what the video showed, most of it is garbage. You're talking to a guy here that eats everything and has tried everything under the sun.

As for meat from the supermarket, Ill lose some sleep over that. I always find it amusing how family comes to visit me from Europe and how amazed they are at the rate chicken takes to cook here vs back home.

What do you care about what people watch or choose anyways? Go your own way sir ;)

You posted a thread about the movie asking for opinions. My opinion was simply that I find it interesting that people freak out over the sensationalist crap in movies like these (and pretty much everything by Micheal Moore). Sure there is some enlightening truth strewn about, but you have to sift through quite a lot of fluff to find it.

Processed food is empty calories, more news at 11 about the mysterious conspiracy and more on the "eat more vegetables" secret solution.

Yes, it's gross. But is the meat you're buying making you sick or otherwise unhealthy?

I haven't seen the movie, but in general, raising animals under poor conditions is immoral. Their health and happiness should be the owners prime concern until slaughter.

Also, I'm not a big meat eater, but people who are into it say animals that eat a natural and species appropriate diet taste better than animals that eat a a diet that's cheapest for the farmer.

Yeah I'm going to give a shit about the cattle before they slaughter it for my food. That's ridiculous. I'm happy as long as it's clean and sterile (within reason) when it hits my fridge. Oh, and tasty.

Huh? Is this forum become more retarded as days go by or what?

Yes, more retarded because tools like you are hook line and sinker to the Michael Moore/Al Gore types that convince you that the corporations are all corporationey and evil.

I agree that the diet of the animals affects the flavor of the meat. Otherwise, a bunch of garbage. "Look at the poor animals, all crowded together." Look at animals in the wild - schools of fish, flocks of birds, herds of buffalo/wildebeest as examples. Gee, crowded - that's inhumane! How can those animals be so inhumane to themselves?

Maltreated animals do not gain weight as readily - maltreated animals have a poor feed to meat conversion ratio. That hits farmers who mistreat their animals right in the pocketbook.

edit: the same applies for pet owners - the food they feed to their pets is "nutritionally complete." That doesn't mean it tastes as good as possible, nor is it what pets have evolved eating over time. Next time you make a roast with vegetables, mix the meat, carrots, potatoes, etc., in a proper ratio for a dog's diet. Give him the choice between his dog food & the freshly prepared food. He'll choose the freshly prepared food every time.
