Question about Divx

Do you know if there is a DVD player out there that would play CDs with Divx movies on them? I am tired of watching those things on my computer and my processor is just not fast enough to always deliver...

seems like you could probably build a computer that could handle playing divx movies with TV-out (think older ATI video card) for less than 400 dollars, and it would then be future-proof (able to play newer versions of divx).
seems like dropping 400 dollars on a player that can play current versions of divx would be kind of silly, unless they have some kind of plan to give you free upgrade that allow you to play newer versions of divx...

Yeah, that is true, there are even cases made by various companies that look like DVD/VCR players.
 
ya they have small form factor pc's, would be a good project and would be far less then 400 if not close to it... and you can do so much more with it.

i've already got all the parts for it, but where can i find a case that looks like a dvd player?
 
although some of the divx movies i downloaded looks pretty good, im not going to put down $400 on a player just so i can play them without a compter. depending on who encoded it and what encoder was used, the picture quality on some movies is just crap while others can surpass the quality of vhs and getting pretty close to dvd. the ones that have some kind of corruption in them that makes the video and audio become out of sync are a real b!t#@. you gotta stop the movie, fast forward from the beginning to the point after the corruption so that it doesnt screw it up again.

like all the other members have said, using the $400 to build a computer made specifically to play those movies is a much better investment. you get the functionality of a computer and a dvd/vcd/divx video player as well (depending on whether you get a dvd-rom or cd-rom).
