Question about calling the cops on your neighbors...

In short, my neighbors keep pissing me off: they always drive their cars into my driveway, hit my cars (putting tiny scratches/nicks on the bumper), then reverse out all so they can park on the side of the street with their cars facing the other way. To top it off, most of the time they park in front of my house instead of parking in front of their own house.

I've already told them I don't want them coming into my driveway and have pointed out the nicks to them, but they still do it; they had some mother's day get-together today, and like 10 cars used my driveway so they could turn around. I saw one of them hit my maxima hard, causing it to lurch forward (and leave yet another nick in the bumper)..when I went outside and confronted that guy, he just shrugged it off (they don't give a damn).

If I file a complaint with the police, and my neighbors do it yet again, would they be able to do anything (other than tell them not to do it over and over again)? I remember a few years ago my father complained to the police about them constantly parking in front of our house (instead of parking in front of their own house), and the police told him there was nothing they could do unless the car was parked in the same spot for more than 7 days...

Why don't you *gasp* call the police and find out what your legal options are instead of wasting your time and posting here about it?

I'd take them a gift and ask them calmly to comply. Maybe take someone with you. Then, start video taping their traffic infractions for the police.

Otherwise, you might consider moving. It doesn't sound like your neighbors are the "nieghborly" type but the asshat type that noone wants to live near.

If they keep on hitting your car the police can do something. I would call.

Umm...you shouldn't even have to post about this. Someone hits your car, you call the police. It's easy.

File a report with the cops, then call your insurance company & report it as a hit & run. Even if the cops don't do anything, the insurance company will...

Well, I would have but I should be cramming for tomorrow's final..I shouldn't even be here, but i'm taking yet another "break" and decided to rant here and maybe see if anyone knew if what they were doing was legal or not..(aside from hitting my car, are they even allowed to come into my driveway to constantly make u-turns?)

Personally I'd put a "no parking except for property owners" sign in front of your yard+driveway... then tow them.

OK, aside from violent geeks, is there anyone who can answer if (ignoring the fact they hit my car) they're allowed to make u-turns in my driveway?

If it's in the city-maintained street then he can't do anything about it unless it is for an extended amount of time, usually.

Anyhow, you need to call and file a police report. By definition, this is a hit and run. The damage may be minimal, but it lowers the value of your property. No one, no matter how small it is, has the right to destroy your property unless you say so. If the police consider this a hit and run, they may be cited for this. In most states a hit and run results in the loss of your lisence.

There may be a reason they aren't worrying about it. Perhaps they aren't licensed or insured. Call the police and they will probably run a quick check.

Take down all the license plate numbers, makes and models of the cars, and if you want a description of the drivers. If they do it as often as you say, you should have a sizable list, and an officer will probably pay them a visit when you file the report. If you let them get away with this now, if they do some real damage, they'll think they can get away with it then.

If you don't mind making the effort, park your car at the end of the driveway so they can't pull in.

Yes, the experts of your local law -YOUR FVCKING POLICE. GOD... dumbass, do you realize you've wasted more than enough time posting about this than would have been used calling the local non-emergency number to find out officially?

that may be true, but considering I wasn't planning on doing anything about it today (or tomorrow) anyway I don't see why posting it here first is such a problem for YOU..in fact, you should be happy because its an excellent opportunity to get your post count even higher

Not unless it is posted that you cannot.

Just like anyone can approach your front door and ring the doorbell unless you say that there is no tresspassing.

Bumping you would need a video camera probably and film them doing it. Parking in front of your house you may have no options.

YES, it is legal for them to use your driveway to turn around. It is not nice that they ram your fvcking car, though. Rip some ass, mofo! :|

My solution:

1. Dig 2 18'' holes on each side of your driveway (not on the easement!)
2. Put 2 small posts in the holes and secure them with concrete.
3. Attach a rusty chain to each pole about 18 inches off the ground.
4. Put a reflector or 2 on the chain so you don't get sued by some idiot.
5. Wait. :D

Video tape it and call the police. When they lie about it, play tape and watch as neighbors get taken away
